Boris Johnson Coronavirus poll

Sat Mar 21, 2020 11:51 am

Let’s see how we rate our Prime Minister in one of the most challenging times we have seen in generations.

Boris is being guided by the top scientists and doctors which will help the nation punch through the virus peak and save as much lives as possible. Now is the time to unite as 1 nation help out when we can and look after ourselves too. I trust Boris and the top scientists that are helping our great nation through this crisis.

I don't know what more they can do. I can see why he went positive on Thursday. He feels we needed the spur but he needs to be more measured, if only so he doesn't have to use his energy fighting the media down the road. I would be critical over the ventilator issue. We would have known fairly early in February that ventilators would be key in the fight against this, but we must have been hoping it wouldn't come here. To be fair to British industry they seemed to be stepping up to the mark but there could be 1000's already built. 10k ventilators could save 100k lives in the next 5 months. I quite like Matt Hancock but him tweeting out his phone number and saying he needs 20k ventilators could have been a plot line out of Only fools and Horses if it wasn't so serious.

Speaking a someone who doesn't trust the man at all I must say he's doing ok at the moment. The acid test for him is now upon him now that he's shut all the bars etc and I wonder how long it'll be before we have armed soldiers at our supermarkets protecting against the hoarders and looters especially in London.

I suspect he'll get a positive vote at the moment but 2 weeks from now,who knows.

Exactly, just hope the Chief Medical Officer and the Chief Scientist are brilliant at their jobs. This is not the time to try and make political capital or point score, this is the biggest threat we’ve faced since WW2.

Genuinely think that the 0,1,2 voters should say what more / different should be done.

He did!maybe some didn't hear or see that in the press meeting? My sister is self employed, and until yesterday, was sitting herself, she is much calmer today  I have slated boris in the past, but I gave him an 8,as there isnt much more he can do,except lockdown enforcement. Testing times ahead, but he's doing fine imo. :old: :bluebird:

I don't understand people insisting we are I some way missing a trick by not having a lockdown .
there is no doubt in my mind that if those guiding our PM { medical experts } are confident its right for us it will happen.. but its being talked about by some as if its clearly improved things elsewhere .. genuinely don't get it , 87% of Italys 4825 deaths have come since the lockdown

Re: Boris Johnson Coronavirus poll

This is not a time to be political. The nation must unite and heed the advice of the scientists. Thousands of lives literally depend on it. I just hope we have taken action at the right time. Boris Johnson will go down as one of the most significant names ever in the history of this country. He will either have steered this country through the biggest crisis since World War Two or his decisions will have caused many, many thousands of lives to be lost. Only time will tell. As much as I intensely dislike the man I pray he is our generation's Churchill.

Re: Boris Johnson Coronavirus poll

No one person can run this on their own - and neither would you want anyone to try.

Its a collective thing based on science / public health / economics it is NOT about politics.

Health first - everything else second.

Johnson is being advised by the best we have. These are troubling times but we can and will get through the other side IF we dont act like idiots - like some of the ones I saw today.

Firstly - CostCo over in Leckwith - Ive never seen so many transit vans being driven by so many corner shop types - who were just stacking in box after box. Please dont tell me they were on their usual shop and it doesnt take a boffin to work out theyre stockpiling - Fecking disgraceful w@nkers.

Second - Middle class hippy types over sitting down over the cafe in the park in pontcanna, way to close for social distancing and in some cases hugging and kissing - again feckin stupid 'intelligent' w@ankers. Listen to the Docs - if we dont STOP this now - the covid wards will be over run with people. And not just OAPs - 50% of hospitalisations are under 70

Not a medical expert in any shape or form but possibly Italy had more carriers before the lockdown and considering the country has the second largest population of elderly people that could also have been a factor.
Like I say, I’m no expert tho

im not a medical expert either, and your point about...possibly more carriers ..is what im getting at.. we don't know...but our medical experts probably do know.. so shouldn't we just follow them ? even if those countries people want us to follow had some measure of success there may still be good reason to not follow suit, but in this case the numbers show the opposite...so what is it that makes joe ordinary shout lockdown now just because others have ?

I didn’t say it should happen, as I’ve no idea of the benefits.
Just going by what had happened in other countries it does seem more than a possibility.

I watched the documentary the other day on the Spanish Flu from 1918 and there was some brilliant minds back in that era. But there was the first faze that was bad but then a lull then the second wave that was much more violent and deadly than the first. But they did know how to contain the second wave but didn’t then they implemented measures that are being implemented now.
Now move forward 102 years and not much has changed into trying to control a virus, and more concerning they had a chance to contain it from the beginning but did not.
They should of closed China’s borders no one in no one out and the international world could of helped financially and medically.
But they made exactly the same mistake as 102 years ago. In 1918 Australia completely shut off there island an they escaped that virus.
But I’m still at odds with the panic the media was trying to spread and at the moment it seems many people are defying as a pissed off Attitude to being manipulated by the press.
Is there a different angle to all this ? I really don’t know but I struggle with what we are being told. But with my wife having MS I can’t go by my judgement or my hesitant belief of I don’t quite believe what we are being told I have to play it safe as my wife has next to no immune system as her drugs suppress the immune system.
Just stay safe everyone.

im struggling with what we are being told too......clearing thousands of hospital beds by sending people home that really should be in hospital... cancelling 10s of thousands of appointments. ambulances prioritising CV cases ..I fear the aftermath death toll is going to exceed the cv death toll... unless there is something we do not know

He's doing ok and being advised by the best we have.

What we need to do is need the advice that has been given.

I'm infuriated at the people out on the smash last night. Banging my head against the wall at their stupid selfish behaviour. We will have a forced lock down because people like that don't give a toss about anyone else.

Frightening really!

CHINA

2 Weeks: 25th Jan 56 Dead
1 Month: 25th Feb 2,595 Dead

ITALY

1 Day: Feb 22nd 2 Dead
2 weeks: March 7th 35 Dead
1 Month: March 19th 3,404 Dead

UK.

1 Day: March 5th 1 Dead
2 weeks: March 19th 144 Dead

The difference?
China complete lock down on DAY 12.
Italy lockdown on DAY 16.

Japan have had no lockdown and Germany only started a partial lockdown today so its not necessarily the answer. That said its time for us to lock down as we cant trust a significant element of the population to act responsibly.
