UEFA make significant 2019/20 season announcement

Bosses have revealed when they now hope to conclude the 2019/20 campaign after holding a meeting on Tuesday

It's understood there is the possibility to play until the end of July, although it is preferred for the current campaign to be completed as soon as possible in a bid to avoid affecting the 2020/21 season.

Euro 2020 postponed due to coronavirus pandemic

The Premier League and EFL have both been postponed until the opening weekend of April at the earliest.

On Tuesday, it was confirmed that EURO 2020 would be pushed back a year as a result of the pandemic, with the tournament now scheduled to take place in the summer of 2021.

It came after the 55 member associations of UEFA were invited to a video conference to discuss the domestic and national game.

In the meeting, they confirmed they are now hoping to complete the 2019/20 domestic season by June 30 at the latest.

This will of course depend on whether or not the current situation improves and resuming playing be "appropriate and prudent enough".

On club competitions, they said the following:

A commitment to complete all domestic and European club competitions by the end of the current sporting season, i.e. 30 June 2020 at the latest, should the situation improve and resuming playing be appropriate and prudent enough.

Possible limitations or drops of current exclusive calendar slots, potentially resulting in the scheduling of domestic league matches in mid-week and scheduling of UEFA club competitions matches on weekends.

Possible adaptations of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds in case of late completion of the 2019/20 sporting season, i.e. after 30 June 2020.

It's understood there is the possibility to play until the end of July, although it is preferred for the current campaign to be completed as soon as possible in a bid to avoid affecting the 2020/21 season.

And it could see the next season get underway at a later date on September 1.

A Football League meeting on Wednesday will determine the best possible outcome in line with the latest Government advice.

Cardiff's league fixtures with Leeds United, Preston and Charlton have been postponed while Swansea have missed out on their Championship clashes with Middlesbrough, Luton and Millwall.

The Bluebirds are currently ninth in the Championship, just two points adrift of the play-off places.

Steve Cooper's Swansea are 11th, just three points behind the top six.

The only way this could ever happen is if :-

All games played behind closed doors.
2 or 3 games per week. With 9 games left - season completed in 3 weeks
All players / coaches to get checked before the start of games.
Between games all players and staff stay together and dont go home. So they are in collective isolation

The season could complete in 3 weeks if players can handle 3 games a week or in 5 weeks if playing 3 game s a week.

All games show live and free on sky and club sites etc

There are however much more important things in life than footy, I'd rather they just have a 11 player penalty shoot out - we could get it all done in place in 1 day

They need to forget about the 2020/21 season for now and just focus on getting this season finished whenever it can be.

The time it resumes is just too unpredictable.
