Cardiff City boss Neil Harris confirms player is in self-isolation over coronavirus fears

The Bluebirds boss issued a statement after it was announced his side's game against Leeds United this weekend has been postponed

By Glen Williams

Cardiff City boss Neil Harris has confirmed one player and one member of staff have placed themselves into self-isolation as a matter of 'precaution' amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The news comes after the Bluebirds' game against Leeds United this Sunday was postponed, with the EFL ruling that all games will be postponed until at least April 3.

The UK government's current guidelines advise that if you have symptoms consistent with coronavirus, such as a continuous cough or high fever, or have been in close contact with someone who has been diagnosed, you should place yourself into isolation.

And while Harris understandably did not go into detail about which player or staff member specifically had isolated themselves, he did state that the measure was a matter of precaution and they had not tested positive for the virus.

"What I will say, to let our fanbase know, is that we have had a member of staff and one of our players in isolation at the moment just as a matter of precaution," Harris said. "Not a positive test, just a precaution.

"We are fully aware, as I think most other teams are at the moment, that the danger is out there.

"So we abide by the rules and the decision of the EFL."

Harris revealed that he and his players found out about the postponement of the Leeds game during Friday morning's training session.

Many supporters, however, will have bought their tickets for not only the Leeds game, but the away trips to Preston and Charlton.

The club released a statement on their website to tell fans who were concerned about ticket refunds that their tickets for re-arranged fixtures will still be valid.

"At this stage, all match tickets for our fixtures against Leeds United (H), Preston North End (A) and Charlton Athletic (H) will be valid for the re-arranged fixture dates, which will be confirmed in due course," the statement read.

"Supporters who are unable to attend the rearranged date will be eligible for a refund. Please note any refunds must be claimed no later than seven days after the announcement of the new date. Match refunds will begin to be processed once rearranged dates have been confirmed."

I can see the rest of the season being cancelled. Why should it resume on the 3rd of April when the virus situation will be much worse. Imagine how you would feel about it if you were a Leeds or Wesr Brom fan. If your club is in a relegation position it will be a get out of jail free card.

On another level it would be quite funny that Leeds miss out on promotion ;) . Before anyone gets their nickers in a twist I'm not suggesting COVID-19 is in any way funny.

The Ice Hockey season has been scrubbed completely with the Devils on top..cant see how they can award Liverpool the title, its gonna seem a bit of a hollow victory..plus relegated sides will argue they may have stayed up. Could get messy..

Same with teams in playoff positions or with a chance of reaching playoffs, how do you decide the prize money etc?
Needs to be just scraped, NO transfer window in summer and all clubs restart as they were again when next season starts with no promotion or relegation.

I cant see the season finishing. The last time this happened was 1939 at the commencement of world war 2.
There weren’t the vast sums of money involved in those days.
