Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to sign off plans to move from the "containment" phase of the outbreak to "delay" at the emergency Cobra meeting later.

The UK is currently in the "containment" phase - the first stage of the government's four-part plan:

Containment
Delay
Mitigation
Research - which runs alongside the other phases

Delay is where "social distancing" measures will be considered - which could include restrictions on public gatherings above a certain number of people, although this is not thought likely at this stage.

The move could also result in people who show even minor signs of respiratory tract infections - such as a cough - or a fever soon being told to self-isolate.

Self-isolating is the advice being given to people who have recently returned from affected countries or have been in close contact with a person who tested positive for the virus.

ALSO
The UK government could reportedly trigger plans for all football matches in England and Wales to be played behind closed doors as early as today as a means by which to combat the spread of coronavirus.

The government will hold a 'Cobra meeting' this morning, in which it is thought they will announce the move from the 'contain' phase to the 'delay' phase.

The delay phase, according to The Times, includes a crisis plan being implemented for all football matches in the Premier League and the English Football League.

Swansea City travel to Middlesbrough on Saturday while Cardiff City host Leeds United on Sunday while for their Championship clashes, however these immediate measures would see both games played with no fans in attendance.

This move to the delay phase means the season will not be postponed or suspended, as has happened in several countries and in many sports.

One measure which it is thought will be implemented is that all season ticket-holders and supporters who have purchased tickets for individual games will be able to live stream coverage at home.
