Maybe Neil Harris is good...?

Tue Mar 10, 2020 9:28 pm

I didn’t want Neil Harris but I’m slowly warming up to him. He took over from probably the most popular manager in my lifetime with very Limited recourses and maybe, just maybe is getting things going. He he has signed three players for next to nothing and the two we have seen have been excellent. He has lost our best and only creative player to injury and moved us closer to the playoffs. Also he has not tried to rip up the warnock blueprint but rather tried to continue and improve on it. I don’t think he’s a genius and as I say I didn’t want him but there is a possibility he’s quite good ! Of course we could get battered in the next two games and I’ll be up there with the rest saying Harris out but I feel like slowly he may be winning me round.

I have similar feelings to you although I'm not surer Harris is quite so close to winning me around !!

However, from what we have seen I do think, unless we totally collapse over the next couple of months, that he deserves the summer transfer window and start of next season to see what he can do in terms of bringing his own style of players in.

So far his transfers in have been pretty impressive so let's give him a chance as long as we can see an improvement.

Everyone will be calling for his head again on sunday if we lose. It does my head in.

Don't worry that will change next time City lose ;)

Cant say I like him personally, find him a bit dull and a basic kind of manager.

However despite inconsistent form and dropping points in key games we still somehow find ourselves in touching distance of the play/offs, he certainly deserves his place as manager until the end of the season.

If he got us up it would be a great achievement but it is why he was brought in.

Playing much better under Harris. Warnock hoofball was painful at best.

Harris will be consistently on trial by most fans right up to the final game

Out of curiosity,do you really believe he was brought in to get us up? I don't,maybe top six was the expectation (not by some!)and hopes, but he has also been getting rid of some dead wood, his signings (well the two we have seen)have been pretty decent, but let's hope he isn't like Warnock, who when given cash, didn't really know how to use it wisely enough, whereas he managed to find some real gems for next to nothing! I'm happy enough with him,to give him the summer and say 10/12 games in to the new season, and see where we are heading, then pass judgement.I think to give him till end of season is a tad unfair,as he has only had the January window, which we know is notoriously difficult to find a gem or two. :old: :bluebird:

Most fans I speak to are pleasantly surprised at how things are slowly transforming. There’s a few rabid dogs on here sniffling around. But they’d do that anyway.

Of course , promotion has been the target since the start of the season whoever the manager. If we dont make top 6 Harris would have failed imo.

Deserves more credit than he’s received. People seem happy to call for ‘Harris out’ whenever we lose but won’t give him any credit when it’s due. Whether you think the football is better or not is personal opinion but the results don’t lie. Harris got 7 more points than Warnock did in the same amount of games and also got consecutive wins and wins away from home- something warnock failed to do. Like him or not he is getting more out of this squad than Warnock did. People need to give him a break and get behind him.

We are no closer to the top six than when Warnock left

personally i felt expectations for this season from some fans was far too high..
relegated, lost half a team , expenditure was minus and apparently not able to compete with Reading in the market ..
and how many clubs go straight back up ?
if our board ...expected ...promotion from Harris they are as off their heads as the fruitloops were earlier in the season...
give the play offs a good go yes, but expect promotion , im not so sure..
a rebuild I think is a 2 season job and this season its not been brilliant but hardly a disaster either.. so I think bar a complete collapse he has to be given next season.. besides should we change the criteria for the next manager will be the same..cheap, available, limited experience and is more likely to be worse than Harris rather than better..

Thats all very well but there is no doubt we have spent a huge + in transfer fees over the last 3 seasons do I dont think its unrealistic to expect a promotion push.

If we couldnt get the Reading striker it was probably more down to wasting money in other areas and not off loading dead wood.

I dont think a rebuild was required although certainly some tweaking.

I normally agree with most things you post, but have a difference of opinion on Harris failing if we don’t make the top 6.

It’s worth bearing in mind his “start state” as he wasn’t on an even keel with his competitors regarding points when he took over and was already having to play catch up. Added to that, time needs to be allowed to get to know the players and vise-versa, plus implement his own ideas and philosophy. It all takes time.

Surely, a fairer way would be to base his success on the total points Cardiff City have accumulated this season since he took the hot seat and compare that figure with other clubs over the same time period. For example, it could work out he’s 4th in the league (based on all Championship games since his arrival), but in reality Cardiff just miss out on the play offs. In this example, I would very much call Neil Harris, despite his unpopularity for reasons unknown to me, a success.
