Vince Alm: Before the press blow the racist announcements

Sat Mar 07, 2020 9:55 pm

VINCE ALM:

Before the press blow the racist announcements out of proportion at Barnsley today:

The first one was a warning to the home fans for calling Sean Morrison (who is english) sheep sh#@#r after a free kick awarded against him on their player.

the 2nd complaint was made at the cardiff fans for singing England full of sh## in the 2nd half.

Cardiff fans accused of discriminatory chants at Barnsley

By Lyall Thomas

Barnsley are investigating two incidents of alleged discriminatory behaviour at Oakwell on Saturday, including a chant sung by Cardiff fans.

Anti-discrimination announcements were played out twice during Barnsley's 2-0 home defeat to the Bluebirds and the Tykes have
"The first announcement related to an isolated incident in the South Stand, reported by Barnsley supporters, towards the end of the first half," Barnsley said in a statement. "Stewards were deployed to the specific area.

"No further reports were made, however a comprehensive investigation is now underway.

"Any form of discrimination is wholly unacceptable and will not be tolerated at Oakwell. We will take the strongest possible action against any individual found to be behaving in such a manner.

Barnsley launch discrimination investigation over two separate incidents in match against Cardiff City

The Championship club released a statement on Saturday evening

By Mathew Davies

Media Wales

Barnsley have released a statement in response to two separate discriminatory incidents in the clash against Cardiff City on Saturday.

An announcement came over the Tannoy during the first half at Oakwell claiming there had been an alleged incident of 'racist, sexist, or homophobic chanting' from a section of the home fans.

And a second event has been highlighted by the Yorkshire club involving away supporters, which was believed to have occurred after half-time.

The exact nature of the alleged incidents is unclear at this time.

Barnsley stated in a statement released on Saturday evening: "Following two anti-discrimination announcements responding to two separate incidents at Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Cardiff City, Barnsley FC has issued the following statement.

"The first announcement related to an isolated incident in the South Stand, reported by Barnsley FC supporters towards the end of the first half. Stewards were deployed to the specific area.

"No further reports were made however a comprehensive investigation is now under way. Any form of discrimination is wholly unacceptable and will not be tolerated at Oakwell. We will take the strongest possible action against any individual found to be behaving in such a manner.

“The second announcement relates to a discriminatory chant sung by Cardiff City supporters, reported in the second half. Barnsley FC will work openly with Cardiff City on this matter."

Cardiff won the match 2-0.

Interesting that Barnsley say it was a isolated incident by a fan of theres but ours was all supporters.
I'm pretty sure more than one person in that ground called us sheep shaggers yesterday.

Unfortunately it looks banter is not allowed in football anymore by the look of it.

They will ruin football with this overzealous stewarding , people will get bored and stop going. Attendances will fall and clubs will go bankrupt all because people get offended by banter which has gone on for decades.

Re: Vince Alm: Before the press blow the racist announcement

Lets take I all the way. If any Leeds fans next Sunday call us sheep shagger's or throw inflated sheep amongst them then stop the game and have all the Leeds fans ejected from the ground. That would give the media something to talk about.
It is becoming ridiculous, don't these stadium officials have any sense. Are we offended if we are called Taff's, Jock's or Paddy's, not in the least. Can't think what the English are called, Oh yes I can, but I better not say it. :D :D :D :D

Re: Vince Alm: Before the press blow the racist announcement

Unfortunately this is not unique to football. Society is becoming controlled by the "woke/snowflake" thought police. I'm not condoning any forms of descriminatory behaviour BUT the road we are travelling down now is stifling all forms of free speech. People are eager to take offence, more often than not on someone else's behalf!

Re: Vince Alm: Before the press blow the racist announcement

The English call us Sheep shaggers, South Wales call N Wales and sometimes refer to the Valleys as Sheep shaggers, the Central belt Scotland call Aberdeen Sheep shaggers, the Scousers call The Wirral Sheep shaggers, there’s some in Yorkshire who call each other Sheep shaggers..... it’s not offensive at all in all seriousness. The announcements are getting pathetic, making a story out of nothing. It will take the focus off any serious form of racism which rightly should be dealt with if it happens which I’ve yet to witness as a City fan home or away.

Spot on mate, these petty little incidents are going to hide the real stuff.

Got called it a lot when working near Bolton, answer was " well I might shag them but then we sell them to you to eat "

This pc stuff is out of control.

Totally agree Jules.....this PC shit has been out of control for quite a few years now.

Earlier posters are right when they say it deflects from the real racist incidents. People will just get to the apathy stage because of overload on minor/non incidents and when something clearly racist happens the thought process will be "I've heard this so many times it's the norm".....when clearly it is not.

And all of the sheep shagger chants are a pisstake because in truth people in the U.K. don’t really shag sheep......except in Aberdeen where 93.4% of adult males admit to lamb loving.

Mozza is a nominal sheep Sh@gger - he qualifies under the FAW official sheep sh@gger ruling of 2005 - sub section C.
So technically the Barnsley fans are correct - Im sure Mozza would deny it of course - but how else does he manage to always have that smile on his face ?

As for us - we are in the wrong - it's not full of sh1t , it's only arf full innit

The whole anti-english chants/songs are just pathetic anyway and have nothing to do with supporting our club, our team and our players. There have been games where within the first 5 or so minutes our brain dead fans are singing England run from Russia or Always shit on the English side of the bridge. What the f**k has that got to do with supporting and getting behind the team and the players let alone be one of the first songs to be sung. These songs together with the absolutely disgusting pathetic version of Hymns and Arias just show how lacking in intelligence and imagination a large number of our so called supporters are. There a loads of old songs and chants that are either never sung anymore or very rarely. Fans moan about lack of atmosphere but instead of getting back to songs/chants that get behind the players and the team they just continue with these pathetic cringing songs that in no way urge on the players and the team. Songs such as We love you Cardiff we do, When the Blues go marching in, na na na Hey Hey Cardiff City, the City song to the Hey Jude tune to name just a few. All of these songs can be loud and most of them can be sung continuously for 5-10 minutes (or longer but that is expecting too much from our fans). There are many others no longer sung as well. Come on Vince at home particularly the songs sung are in the main dictated by what you start up on the drums. Either ditch the drums, which would be my particular choice, or start adding to your repertoire. You have been around long enough to know and remember all of the songs and chants. We also need more imagination for songs for individual players. None of this will happen though of course because our brain dead, coked up, pissed up so called supporters think that the anti english songs and the disgusting version of hymns and arias is what is called supporting our team and players.

The chanting, banter, anti english songs, are all part of the game and makes our stadium/ninian park one of the best atmospheres. If you don't like it go and watch tennis or crown green bowling instead

Oh f**k off you clown. I was there from the start of of it all from the mid sixties. Seen and done it all probably when you were still in your nappy. Your response is typical of everything I said and nothing more than I expected from so called supporters like you. If you think that the anti english songs and the disgusting version of hymns and arias Is what creating an atmosphere is all about then dream on butt and if you think songs like that are what supporting your club, team and players is all about then you really are a bit on the thick side. I’m really sure the players get that extra motivation when they hear clowns like you singing songs like that.

With regard to the chant "England is full of shit" that is an opinion and can be freely expressed under freedom of speech laws even if it offends. It is a generalisation and doesn't refer to any individual or individuals, it instead refers to a place which some fans believe is awful. We (Cardiff fans) might be wrong but we are entitled to an opinion ;)
