"Obviously Isaac Vassell is one we’ve had really bad luck with. In a positive under-23s performance and some real good minutes for Neil [Etheridge], Sol [Bamba] and Brad [Smith], there was excitement in Issac’s eyes to come back. It was a real shame to see him come off as he did. It was a different quad to what he had before so there was no recurrence of the old injury, just really bad luck."

"He’s had a scan and he won’t play again this season. Our hope for him is that he’s like a new signing in the summer and we know that he will work extremely hard over the close season to get him back on the starting line in June. I hope he gets the fortune his character deserves."

How is Isaac coping mentally?

"As you can imagine he’s extremely down. I really feel for him, he’s a real nice lad and has worked so hard to get back from a long-term injury ever since I came into the club."

"I was always hoping we would have him back for the start of April so that’s now been taken away from us. It’s more that we feel for him as a person and for his family because all he wants to do is play football, it’s all he has ever done since being a kid so the last couple of years have been very tough for him. Just when he’s smiling and joking over the last three or four weeks the rug gets pulled away from him again. That’s the side of footballers the general public don’t see."
