Do pre-season plans have to be made now?

Thu Mar 05, 2020 3:40 pm

NEIL HARRIS:

Do pre-season plans have to be made now?

"We have to be extremely organised by looking at the long term for what’s right and wrong."

"It’s a hot topic for us on the training ground because we want to know what fixtures we can play, the logistics of being Cardiff City and something I was certainly used to as Millwall manager is not being able to play certain opposition. The difference here is logistically and geographically, getting to games isn’t easy. If we can’t travel abroad then logistics means we have to look at different ways of playing pre-season."

NEIL HARRIS:

When would you have to know about booking pre-season venues?

"You can leave it as late as you want but if you want good opposition and to involve the fan base then you want to do it as soon as possible. Ideally for me it would have been organised last week."

How can you organise pre season before you know what league you will be playing in ?

Playing in the championship it's ok to go to places like torquay and Hereford but looking to a premier league season you need quality opposition to test yourself against

Totally agree and I know that for a fact, so much bullshit

Don’t see either of the above’s points. When we went up our pre season campaign was in Cornwall against teams worse than Hereford. We then played Burton and Rotherham before Real Betis. And I’m pretty sure nobody moaned about that as Warnock was in charge. Now it’s Harris and people are finding problems with it. Ridiculous really. Pre season is all about fitness not about the opposition, and the week before the season starts you’ll have a more difficult opponent to check the squads up to it.

the games make little difference, it's all about getting fit. It seems the Portugal trip was more about that than who we play.

I'd imagine home friendlies would be closer the time and they are usually the "tests"

honestly for such devoted fans it seems like logic goes our the window to have a dig sometimes. no different to previous years or any other club.

I'm not having a dig
I'm saying that playing Tiverton town, Bodmin and grangetown is not the best preparation for a premier League season.
It's not all about getting fit, the games prepare you for the upcoming season and the last two years has been poor

Too many journos and not enough to write about.

Its March. Don't understand why Harris, and other managers being asked Coronavirus and pre season.

Klopp got it right when he refused to talk about it.
