Former Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock lined up to take Ipswich Town job – report

The former Bluebirds boss left his post at Cardiff City Stadium back in November, but has now been linked with a new role

Former Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock is reportedly being lined up to take over from Paul Lambert at Ipswich Town.

The former Bluebirds boss left his post at Cardiff City Stadium back in November after three hugely-successful years in charge.

He has largely been doing media work since, having featured regularly on radio station talkSPORT and Sky TV shows Soccer Saturday and Sunday Supplement.

Ipswich have been heavily tipped to bounce back up into the Championship next season, but owing to three consecutive defeats they find themselves in ninth place and outside of the play-off places.

The Mirror reports that Warnock is the man the Tractor Boys have identified as Lambert's successor.

The former Bluebirds boss, who boasts eight promotions on his CV, has recently spoken about potentially taking on a job on a short-term basis until the end of the season.

With that in mind, Ipswich might well be the perfect job.

"Apparently I have 12 league games to go to get 1,500 and that is really tempting to me," Warnock told the BBC in January.

"I might have to go to League Two or something like that, but why not? It doesn't bother me what division I am managing in.

"I just think I will go to the end of this season. We are doing quite a bit of renovation at the house in Cornwall and it will be finished at the end of the season.

"So I think Sharon [his wife] will be happy for me to be out of the house for a few weeks!

"People have mentioned things, but I have had no offers yet.

"I would like to do the 12 games if I am honest, I would like to be able to contribute to a club, either saving it or getting it up."

If he wants his next job just to say that hes managed in 1500 games I hope he doesn't get another job.

Do the odd bit of punditry now and then, enjoy your renovated house (courtesy of staying too long at Cardiff), put your feet up and enjoy your retirement.

Watched Ipswich v Joey Bartons Fleetwood last night and they were worse than terrible, right from the 1st whistle till the end the crowd were chanting for the owner and managers head.
Out of all the games to watch this one gave me some kind of perverse curiosity.

Good luck to him cant find a better manager and legend than Warnock himself so all the best to him and hopefully we see him when Ipswich get promoted because lets face it they have the best manager for the job.

I just wonder when were the 'three hugely successful years'? I can remember a year and a half.

I hope he gets the job, and he can sign Jazz Richards and Danny Ward in the summer.
