Jazz Richards is 50-50 to play.

Young Dion Sanderson stepped in to make his second appearance and did brilliantly in his stead, so, in all likelihood, we could see the Wolves loanee fill the right-back berth once again.

About Barnsley

Barnsley Football Club is a professional association football club based in the town of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. The team play in the Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Nicknamed "the Tykes", they were founded in 1887 by Reverend Tiverton Preedy under the name Barnsley St. Peter's. The club's colours were originally blue, but were converted to red and white in 1904 and Barnsley have played in those colours ever since. Their home ground since 1888 has been Oakwell.

Barnsley won the FA Cup in 1911–12 and were also runners-up in 1909–10. The club won two trophies at Wembley Stadium in 2016 – the Football League Trophy, beating Oxford United 3–2 in the final, and the 2016 Football League play-offs, beating Millwall 3–1 in the final. Barnsley became only the second club to secure both the Football League Trophy and Football League promotion via playoff finals in the same season, after Grimsby Town F.C..

On 19 December 2017, it was announced that Patrick Cryne and family had agreed to sell a majority stake in Barnsley Football Club to a consortium involving Chien Lee of NewCity Capital, Grace Hung and Paul Conway of Pacific Media Group, Indian businessman Neerav Parekh and baseball legend Billy Beane. The new consortium holds 80% of the shares and the Cryne family holds 20% of the shares of Barnsley Football club. Barnsley fans often consider their biggest rivals to be Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and Leeds United, although other significant rivalries exist with Huddersfield Town, Rotherham United, Doncaster Rovers, Bradford City and Chesterfield.

Knowing us we would lose to Barnsley after an encouraging game against Brentford. I would love to be shocked but it could go either way really.

Every time I see Barnsley clips on tv they look half decent going forward as they did at our place but we need to attack them as their defence is their problem.

Ref is James Linnington who officiated in our win at Luton.

NEIL HARRIS:

What are you expecting from Barnsley?

"It was an exciting game here [earlier in the season], what we know about the Championship at the moment is that bottom can beat top as we’ve seen recently with Wigan beating West Brom and Charlton winning at Forest."

"Anyone who goes on a run of three or four victories will start moving up the table. Barnsley are a very exciting side attacking-wise and a little bit risk and reward in what they do. They commit bodies forward but they do score goals from it as well so we need to guard against that. But also try and improve on what we’re doing."

"We know it’ll be a tough challenge up there with a good home atmosphere but we have 10 games left and we want to win games which starts on Saturday against Barnsley."

NEIL HARRIS:

Could Cunningham and Mendez-Laing feature again this season?

"Cunningham, no he can’t. There’s an outside chance [for Mendez-Laing], but there’s no pressure from outside of the group to have him back soon, you can’t rush hamstring injuries as we know. Tomlin is improving and he’s had an injection into his knee which will help his healing process, he’s on the track day-by-day."

Barnsley will again be without goalkeeper Sami Radlinger against Cardiff City as the Austrian continues to recover from a muscle strain.

Midfielder Callum Styles (ankle) will also remained sidelined, having missed the past four games.

Cardiff should have full-back Jazz Richards back from illness but Wolves loanee Dion Sanderson looks set to keep his place in the starting XI.

Lee Tomlin (knee) and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (hamstring) are still missing.

That's the way I see it too  their front line are very good, had something like 24 shots away last week! Hate it when fans say "bottom 2/3" should be a win" these teams are not down yet,and will be fighting for their lives, always a banana skin a fair in my eyes, hoping for a 2-1 win,but will be made to work for it! :old: :bluebird:

The early Barnsley vs Cardiff City team news

The Bluebirds head to Yorkshire aiming to kickstart their Championship play-off push

Neil Harris and his Cardiff City side travel to Barnsley on Saturday with three points a must if they want to be serious play-off contenders going into the last 10 games of the season.

The Bluebirds boss faces a number of selection conundrums both in terms of formation and personnel as injuries and fluctuating form continue to play a big part in his thought process.

Harris revealed on Thursday that Jazz Richards could be back in the matchday squad after a number of weeks out. The full-back could struggle to slot straight back in, though, given the terrific form of young full-back Dion Sanderson.

But Issac Vassell won't play again this season after suffering an injury in his comeback game for the under-23s in midweek. It was a devastating blow for the striker, who has seen his campaign wrecked by injury issues.

Elsewhere, long-term absentees Greg Cunningham and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing have begun light training as they fight back from serious injuries.

Other than those two, along with playmaker Lee Tomlin, Harris has a large squad to choose from for the trip to Yorkshire.

Welshman Will Vaulks is available after, perhaps fortunately, avoiding a red card against Brentford and will most likely feature for the Bluebirds at Oakwell.

Joe Ralls staked his claim for a starting place with an impressive performance last weekend. After missing 17 league games this term, his return to the starting XI proved decisive as he scored the equaliser in a 2-2 draw.

A key selection headache for Harris is who plays alongside Vaulks and Ralls in midfield. One key aspect that will influence his selection is how he lines up in formation. Playing 4-3-3 could see an unchanged trio from last weekend, with Leandro Bacuna in midfield.

If the Bluebirds take a more conservative approach, Marlon Pack could be used as a deep-lying midfielder to protect the back four and break up play. However, the fact that Barnsley sit 23rd in the table could mean that Cardiff try to take the game to the hosts - even if their recent form has been positive, with nine points gained from their last 12 available.

The last time Harris named an unchanged side was against Wigan Athletic in February after arguably the best performance of the season in the 3-0 win at Huddersfield Town.

A similarly impressive performance against Brentford last weekend could see the Bluebirds manager keep the same XI here.

Barnsley FC:

Meanwhile, the hosts will be without first-choice goalkeeper Sami Radlinger who is absent due to a muscle strain. The Austrian continues his fight for fitness having not appeared since February 1. Midfielder Callum Styles is also due to miss out for a fifth consecutive match because of an ankle injury.

Other than those two, the Tykes will have a full squad to choose from.

Barnsley come into this came sitting 23rd in the Championship, and remain in real trouble of slipping through the trapdoor, but anyone earmarking this as an easy three points may well need to think again.

Last week’s 2-0 defeat to Reading ended an impressive run of three straight wins, including a sensational 3-0 win over Fulham.

The message on the front of today’s programme from goalkeeper Brad Collins is clear - if we can beat them, we can beat anyone.

Even so, Cardiff can be comforted by the fact that they have a decent record at Oakwell, having not lost to the Reds in their last five visits, a record stretching back to 2009.

However, if the Bluebirds are to stay within reasonable grasp of a Championship Play-off place, they will need to come away from Oakwell with a positive result that includes three points rather than one.

Harris expecting tough challenge

Neil Harris is expecting a tough battle at Oakwell this afternoon, but it seems the mood in the camp is pretty positive after City’s fightback at home to Brentford.

"It was an exciting game here [earlier in the season], what we know about the Championship at the moment is that bottom can beat top as we’ve seen recently with Wigan beating West Brom and Charlton winning at Forest.

"Anyone who goes on a run of three or four victories will start moving up the table. Barnsley are a very exciting side attacking-wise and a little bit risk and reward in what they do. Struber eyeing big improvement

Barnsly manager Gerhard Struber:

Reds boss Gerhard Struber admits he will need to see a big improvement from his side if they are to emerge with all three points this afternoon.

“Despite the result in December, I enjoyed visiting Cardiff, it was a great city and in our game together it was a close call and on a different day we could have taken the points.
“We will need to improve on last weekend’s performance if we are to succeed this afternoon, that is for sure. Our energy was not there in Reading and we suffered our first defeat in four games, having previously been on a three-game winning streak.
“For the players to play my style it requires a strong conviction and a real energy. I make no excuses, all clubs have the same number of games, but I don’t think my boys played as well as we know they can.
“I believe we know the reasons for this and we’ve had a very good, full week in training so we are well prepared for the Bluebirds.”
