Cardiff City dealt summer transfer blow as Premier League sides circle for Wolves loanee Dion Sanderson after impressive Bluebirds start - reports

By Glen Williams

Tuesday 3rd March 2020

The young right-back has enjoyed a brilliant start to life in the Welsh capital and Bluebirds fans have urged the club to tie him down to another deal

Premier League clubs are reportedly poised to swoop for Wolves youngster Dion Sanderson this summer in what would be a big blow to Cardiff City.

The young right back has started his Bluebirds career like a train, having impressed in his first two outings against Nottingham Forest and Brentford.

As such, according to the Daily Mail , Premier League sides are beginning to take notice of the 20-year-old and some are thought to be preparing bids for the player this summer.

Sanderson has just one year remaining on his contract at Molineux and despite Wolves monitoring his progress closely in the Welsh capital, it is reported that they are looking to add senior defenders to their squad in the summer transfer window.

Sanderson's ceiling appears to be very high and while Bluebirds fans were largely resigned to the fact they might not be able to sign him permanently in the summer, many have urged the club to tie him down to another year-long loan deal.

That certainly seemed like a smart idea, too.

Jazz Richards, the most-senior right back in Neil Harris' squad, is out of contract this summer and, given his injury woes, a new deal does not appear to be imminently forthcoming.

Lee Peltier left the club in January, having seen his contract terminated by mutual consent before signing for West Brom on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

And Cameron Coxe, the 21-year-old academy prospect who many tipped to become Peltier's successor, has been told he can leave at the end of his current deal.

It all led to a hope that Sanderson would pen another season-long loan at the Welsh capital club, gain a further full season of senior experience, then return to his parent club Wolves to press on with his career there.

Whether that could still happen should another Premier League side swoop for him, however, remains to be seen.

Harris has been effusive in his praise since Sanderson made his debut against Forest, in which he did well to keep the tricky Sammy Ameobi at bay, with the youngster following it up against the Bees, particularly impressing with his attacking output.

"Dion has shown himself to be more than capable of playing at this level," Harris said after the player's second outing against Forest last weekend.

"He has shown he is composed on the ball and is willing to get forward, he's athletic and willing to defend as well.

"He should be a proud young man."

We were never going to try and sign him anyway, Wolves dont want to let him go and if they do they would want £millions and we wont pay.
He will be looking for Premier football.

Agreed, at his age there is no way he would have signed for us permanently even if we could afford him.

He has Premiership class and will get plenty of games at a mid to lower placed team in the Prem right now. It has to go down as a bit of a steal for us to get him on loan for this period though. Enjoy watching him play for us while we can !!

Trooblue has said on another thread that he’s heard that he’s been signed for next season. Whether a loan or not I’m unsure.

I would def not believe permanently.

But who knows if Wolves want to loan him out again next season ?

We might not be able to hold on to players such as sanderson, but we could have identified young players such as this and got them on a seasons long loan,
instead of buying donkeys that we are stuck with and cannot sell on
Contacts and good scouting policy is the way to go
Following the wolves model would have suited us better than trying to emulate burnley.

you mean get owners who are minted ,who work hand in glove with an agent { hanging offence here } who brings in a dozen players from all over the place for 40 mill plus within a couple of weeks finish 15th so keep changing managers and buying players until it works..
id absolutely love it mate.
not an option under this regime im afraid.. which is why Burnley were mentioned.

DOGFOUND

we do not have to follow wolves in every respect spending millions but take the route of good loans
are wolves owners worth more than cardiff? i thought the Portuguese contact that wolves had was the reason of there success not so much the millions.

bit of both mate...the Portuguese contact is super agent and indirectly a fosun employee Jorge mendes.
and the loaned in players ? hardly young fringe players the loans were used more to spread costs than be really on loan..
they have stretched and twisted and worked in every grey area they could find to stay technically within the rules...
Mendes isn't even on the paper work for many of the signatures and some players didn't have an agent registered at all ??...theyve had more investigations than the JFK assassination.. but despite clearly being as bent as a butchers hook so far nothing has stuck
worth a read...the article is careful to not make direct accusations but im sure youll get the drift ..
https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... s-signings

long and short of this is..its not just a case of saying lets loan in players..lots of money involved lots of influence required with individual players as well as at other clubs.. even with all of this...their first attempt did not work..nuno was the 3rd manager..and only 1 of the original 12 bought in at great expense really came off for them.. it was the second season it clicked after more signings..
and our fans complain :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5:

He said Sanderson but I heard that Smith was already sorted as a permanent signing. Just hope he’s as good as the other 2. According to reports, he was very good for the U-23s.

If we want him next season id be surprised if he isn't available next season, he's already at a premier league club so will a move to another premier league club appeal? If he is in the premier league next season id be surprised if he isn't available for another season loan.
