Furious Brentford boss launches expletive-laden rant after Cardiff City star Will Vaulks' challenge and makes Neil Harris red card admission

The Bees manager was incensed following his side's 2-2 draw with the Bluebirds and claimed the City midfielder should have been sent off

Thomas Frank, manager of Brentford, clashes with Will Vaulks of Cardiff City
A furious Thomas Frank launched an extraordinary, expletive-laden rant after he claimed Cardiff City's Will Vaulks shoved his player's head into the floor.

It was an action-packed clash at Cardiff City Stadium, a four-goal thriller which resulted in a 2-2 draw , but both managers have their gripes.

For Neil Harris, he believes the referee, Simon Hooper, made a huge error in not awarding his side a penalty late on for a trip in Junior Hoilett inside the Brentford box.

For Frank, however, he was furious that Vaulks was allowed to stay on the pitch after a flashpoint which seemingly sparked the Bluebirds into life.

Christian Norgaard slid in hard on Cardiff's Vaulks before the City midfielder appeared to push his head to the floor while trying to get up himself.

Frank leapt to attention in his technical area and launched a furious tirade at Vaulks and later explained his ire.

"If you saw the reaction from our bench. Normally, if it’s 50-50 situations I will complain and one of my staff will complain because we want to influence," the Dane said.

"You could just the see the whole f***ing bench jumping up. If you see that, it’s probably because something is wrong."

He even revealed that Bluebirds boss Harris agreed with his assessment that Vaulks should have been given his marching orders.

"For me, 100 per cent clear red card," he added. "I like Neil Harris very much – we have a very good relationship and I am looking forward to having a cold beer with him. He said ‘yes it’s a red card’.

"Vaulks after the game – I said ‘you are a very good player and I know you are not a player like that’ because he is not a dirty player.

"Some players are playing a little. I could maybe name one Cardiff player who is always trying to wind people up and I know that is part of the game, but Vaulks is not like that.

"But this one was a red card. The fourth official, linesman, too soft – they saw it 100 per cent."

He added: "The knee was in the face. He (Vaulks) put his knee down – he forced it down in the grass. I think there is still a hole down there."

Frank conceded that he didn't think that Vaulks was 'that type' of player, but did say he thought one Bluebird went out there with the intent to wind up and niggle the opposition.

The Bees boss was also embroiled in a heated exchange with Callum Paterson following the incident and when pressed on whether he was the player he was referring to, he responded: "You need to judge that."

When asked about an exchange with Paterson after the game, Frank added: "I just wanted to say thank you for the game, he clearly didn't want to say thank you to me.

"You can ask him about it."

Both players could have been sent off but the referee was dreadful and let it go.

It was 'one of those' that may or may not have been a red card; and for sure, if it had been one of our players on the receiving end, we'd have been ranting at the lack of a sending off, too. But it's football, it happens, we able by the Rules and we move on

Clearly Callum paterson is being referred to by Thomas Frank (I'm sure I used to wear his motorcycle clothing brand :laughing6: ) and all I can say on that is well done, Callum. You got up and at them in their faces snd they were clearly rattled!

A draw from 0-2 down and my particular glass is half full on this occasion; others (well, two specifics actually) will see it differently ;)

From the clips I’ve seen on social media it looked like the ref got that Vaulks decision wrong but he got a hell of a lot More wrong for us including penalty calls, the free kick which led to the goal,50/50 challenge on the keeper and there was a blatant offside too.
Crap Ref and lino’s.

Back in the day apart from Brian Stevens from Stonehouse we never had such post match mortems on referees.

Last season and this we have had the mucky end of the stick constantly and it just keeps on coming.

And we haven’t had the midget Keith Stroud yet

Common denominator for all managers complaints is the referee. If you have seen all City games this season you can see why. The standard of refereeing is abysmal. They are afraid to make the correct decision and just seem to want a quiet Saturday afternoon. As for the linesmen, what are they there for, they alway look at the referee before they decide which way to give a throw in. The linesman with the Yellow flag against Brentford must have left his labrador at home. He was a disgrace.
