Vaulks Retrospective Red?

Sun Mar 01, 2020 10:42 am

Having seen the highlights this morning, the incident in front of the dugout with Vaulks would clearly have been a red card in the Premier League (with VAR).

As he wasn’t even given a yellow card, doesn’t that mean that the incident can be reviewed by the FA and be subsequently punished? Or doesn’t that rule apply any more?

If the ref saw it which he did as he made the action to explain what he saw so and gave nothing, then no retrospective red

Gotta say, maybe I have my blue tinted specs on, but I didn't see it as a red. He holds the players head down on the turf after a very poor challenge on him. Mind you, there are a lot saying straight red, so who am I to say otherwise??

The referee saw it and dealt with it at the time

The 'retrospective' punishment you appear to want can only be given if the referee reports that he didn't 'see' it; which he clearly did, so end of matter

I thought Vaulks lost his balance after the challenge and instinctively put his arm out to break his fall. Unfortunately, the position Vaulks placed his arm happened to be across the Brentford players neck, making it look like he was holding him down on the ground. But I saw it as nothing more than Vaulks losing his balance from the challenge and breaking his fall, it was just unfortunate the Brentford player was in the way to make it look like a nasty incident.

Pretty innocuous when looked at in the cold light of day and an (understandable) over reaction from Frank Thomas, the Brentford manager :thumbright:

even in the replay he does press down, but its for a fraction of a second and its not like he has dropped down with greatforce {from hight } . no idea why Harris should agree it was red or why their player rolled around the way he did...

I felt they all made It to be worse than what it was at the time. The initial challenge is strong(and fair) but leads to the bodies coming together and a bit of contact. In years gone by players would have got up and got on with it without all the handbags that followed.
