Alex Smithies

Made a couple of spectacular saves once again and sharp with his feet when he needed to be. Made a couple of crucial interventions late on, too.

Great kicking too ,a better all rounder than Etheridge

could never understand why he was initially dropped, I think by Warnock.

I do think we have two very good keepers but for me Smithies all round game is better for me.

Hes a quality keeper. Always has been. Warnock is slated ,and quite rightly so, for some of his transfers, but for me, Smithies was a great piece of buisness

He's a fantastic keeper and should have replaced Etheridge a long time before he did.

he had a good game and its one of many.. and I certainly don't think we should make a change again..
but get real..you slaughtered NE for leaving much more difficult shots in...and for far more accurate kicking.. yes Smithies more often than not makes great contact. but accuracy ?????????? it really is hoof up field..we are the blue ones.

Well if you listen to one fan in the Canton Stand he was a fault for their 2nd goal because the wall was to short and he was the wrong side of the goal.

In my opinion he should have played most of last season and he will be one of the few players that will leave us for a respectable amount of money in the summer.

Etheridge would 100% have been blamed for the wall and free kick...was blamed for better positioned walls and much better placed free kicks...

Im not going back into it but Etheridge is massively overrated and it showed this season. Smithies kicking is ten times better than Etgeridge, which isn't hard.
To be fair Smithies positioning for the free kick could have been better aswell.

a lot better,, as I said im certainly not calling for his head, just reminding you of the massively high standards you held one keeper too and not this one.

His kicking has been good

Etheridge struggled to keep it on the pitch

eyes don't lie mate..and stats do not either...
yes the odd wayward kick...but on average { that includes the wayward ones } NE is by far the more accurate kicker..its why he got to kick long so often { secret, it was a tactic not just him deciding to go long } even taking free kicks on the halfway line..
good is hitting blue not just distance...and no its not good at all..
anyway you know all of this....might not suit but you know it, its impossible to watch balls landing one after another in no mans land to not notice..

Etheridge kicking is dogshite. People were even laughing at it at one stage on the stands before he was dropped. It is his major weakness your probably the only person I've ever heard say it was good or better than Smithies.

The truth is our defence in the promotion season made him look good with his camera saves. The season before he was even dropped for 3 weeks for Murphy. Hes not a patch on Smithies overall game and Harris obviously worked that out pretty quickly.

I like both keepers but surely you dont actually think Etheridge is a better kicker than Smithies?

I think you need to change your password  Thays madness.

It was after the 4-2 defeat at West Brom,if I remember correctly. I thought he deserved to keep his place, and was admonished for saying etheridge should wait, not be put back into the side after injury, but I do agree we probably have two of the best in this division, lucky us. :old: :bluebird:
