Cardiff City are still sweating on the fitness of Jazz Richards, who missed the Nottingham Forest game due to illness.

Jazz Richards is 50-50 to make to play today.

Young Dion Sanderson stepped in to make his debut and did brilliantly in his stead, so, in all likelihood, we could see the Wolves loanee fill the right-back berth once again.

As for today's visitors, centre back Pontus Jansson is a doubt, along with Mathias Jensen, Ellery Balcombe, Sergi Canos, Nikos Kerlis and Josh Clarke.

Albert Adomah is back to play v Brentford after not being able to play against his parent club Forest :bluebird:

Team News: :bluebird:

January loan Signing Brad Smith not totally fit yet? , but might make the bench v Brentford :bluebird:

Lee Tomlin out injured until April.

Connolly, Isaac Vassell , Greg Cunningham and Mendez-Laing are all still injured.

I have gone for a Brentford win as I believe their players will want the win more than ours.

I have not seen much sign of desire or passion from most of our team and certainly not much in the way of quality. Its not a positive outlook for the rest of the season and we desperately need a major squad change in the summer.

I went to Brentford away this season midweek game and they deserved their 2-1 win, outplayed us.

I don't think we are up for this one and will get beaten.
0-2 is my guess and 3rd straight defeat.

Our chances have been diminished by the announcement of the referee.

No not Keith Stroud or John Brookes or Steve Martin, all serially bad referees as far as we’re concerned but the incompetent bald lardy Simon Hooper.

Match facts

Cardiff City have won their last three home league games against Brentford since a 2-3 defeat in December 2014.

Brentford haven’t completed a league double over Cardiff since the 1994-95 season.

Cardiff haven’t lost three consecutive Championship games since January 2018, when they lost four in a row.

Brentford have won just two of their last nine away Championship games (W2 D3 L4), losing last time out against Luton Town.

Cardiff have failed to score in their last two Championship matches, having failed to score in just two of their first 17 games in the competition under manager Neil Harris.

15 of the 31 Championship goals (48%) Brentford have conceded this season have come via set pieces, including each of their last three (one penalty, two free-kicks).

Young Dion Sanderson stepped in to make his debut and did brilliantly in his stead, so, in all likelihood, we could see the Wolves loanee fill the right-back berth once again.

Elsewhere, Neil Harris is reticent to throw Joe Ralls straight back into the starting lineup owing to his lack of game time.

He came on for an impressive cameo against Forest and is champing at the bit to wrestle his way into the starting lineup, but that is just one of the many selection dilemmas the manager has on his mind.

Albert Adomah also comes back in, having been deemed ineligible against his parent club last Tuesday.

Lee Tomlin, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Isaac Vassell and Matthew Connolly are the long-term absentees.

As for today's visitors, centre back Pontus Jansson is a doubt, along with Mathias Jensen, Ellery Balcombe, Sergi Canos, Nikos Kerlis and Josh Clarke.

Neil Harris on Dion Sanderson's debut against Forest

The Bluebirds manager penned the following in his programme notes.

NEIL HARRIS:

"I thought Dion Sanderson, on his full league debut, put in a very assured and disciplined performance."

"He showed real energy and athleticism too and used the ball really well."

"His parents were here to watch him and it’s a moment that his family will be very proud of."

Neil Harris on Joe Ralls:

The midfielder came back into the fray last week and here is what the manager has had to say...

Welcoming Joe Ralls back into the fold in the last seven days has been a real positive.
It’s not just about having an influential player back in the matchday squad, but also his infectious enthusiasm around the training group, especially after losing Lee Tomlin, his energy and sparkle, on and off the pitch.
As much as we’ve had to be patient with Joe over the past three months, you also want to get players up to speed as quickly as possible.

The full injury update

Very encouraging news regarding Isaac Vassell in today’s programme notes...

NEIL HARRIS:

"More good news is that Isaac Vassell has been back on the training pitch in the past two weeks and we’re hoping he’ll play some minutes in an U23 game at Leckwith on Monday. "

"It’s really nice to get injured players back to what they love doing - working extremely hard on the training pitch with their friends.
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing had a really positive meeting and is now back out jogging on the grass, although he has a long way to go in his recovery, while Lee Tomlin is responding well to treatment."

"We’re talking about influential players that we want back in before the end of the season, if possible."

Very passive from City so far, but Joe Ralls finds himself in a half space and swivels before playing a lovey ball in for Junior Hoilett. The winger sprints towards it but the Bees defence does enough to ensure he can’t get a clean shot away.

Brentford break after Marcondes dispossesses Will Vaulks in midfield. They fly down the left hand side but the cross is intercepted by Sanderson, who puts it out for a corner.
