Cardiff City's Neil Harris lifts lid on 'unsavoury incident' between Callum Paterson and Leandro Bacuna as he reveals apology

The manager said it was "not a good look" for the football club but that matters were now resolved and “We move on.”

Cardiff City boss Neil Harris insists there is no rift in the Bluebirds dressing room, despite Callum Paterson and Leandro Bacuna's bust-up at the end of the defeat to Nottingham Forest.

However, Harris has confirmed that he has since received an apology from both players and has also reminded them of their responsibilities.

Both players were seen squaring up to each other following the disappointing defeat at Cardiff City Stadium, although Harris himself was immediately keen to play it down, claiming at the time that both players had patched things up in the dressing room.

Nevertheless, with Cardiff's play-off hopes hanging on a knife-edge heading into Saturday's clash with fifth-placed Brentford, it was a sight that will have generated a fair amount of concern among the City faithful.

NEIL HARRIS:

"I spoke afterwards," Harris said when questioned on the mood in the camp in light of the incident. "I didn't see the incident at the time. I was down the tunnel. But when I was asked afterwards, I was quite reflective. It is a passionate game. We are a passionate football club.

"We talk about the passionate fanbase. A workman-like fanbase. We as a club wear our heart on our sleeve. I'm all for personality and aggression at the right times.

"Having reflected on it and looked at it back. It reminded the players, them two in particular, but the group too - we do have a young fanbase that does attend games and that disappointment and those argumentative moments need to be dealt with in private in the changing room.

"99 out of 100 are. So I've reminded them of their professional responsibilities as sportsmen and how they're role models."

Harris has revealed that he has since spoken to both players, and seemingly has no concerns over picking either of them for this weekend's important clash with the Bees.

"As a pair, they're great," he added. "They're really, really good guys. They were fine afterwards and I've had an apology from both of them.

"I said to them, 'it's not just about the apology, it's about making sure it doesn't happen again'. They want to win and they were disappointed afterwards.

"It's unfortunate and it's not a good look. It doesn't look great for the football club and I tried to play it down afterwards, because it's not something I want us to be remembered for.

"It doesn't reflect the group. They're not like that in the group. Yes, they want to win, but there's not a horrible mentality in the group and they've really evolved since I've been here. It was an unsavoury incident. The players have put it to bed. I've dealt with it behind the scenes.

"What I know about the group is they're really good lads. They're really good lads. What's important for everyone to know is that there's no underlying issue.

"We move on."

Doesn't it piss you off though? These same fans would be singing his name,in the event of winning the play offs, however unlikely it may seem,it's not impossible imho, strange things happen all the time in football, every season without fail.I truly believe some fans would be spitting nails if he achieves anything with us,just because they may have been wrong about his abilities  we have just lost back to back games for the 1st time this season, and the usual suspects are sharpening their knives as we speak :? Call me an old farts, but I miss the days of old, where the crowds were small, but had the best sense of humour of all as far as I am concerned, my dad would be spinning in his grave(rip dad) if he thought I had considered walking out at half time, with the game at 0-0 to boot, against a team in the chase for top 2!! Fans seem to have been made giddy with the reasonable success of the last ten years or so,and only "sing when we're winning" a sad fact of the modern game (and fans). :old: :bluebird:
