The starting 11 with the super subs

Thu Feb 27, 2020 10:27 am

Since the usual 11 aren’t getting results, especially at home. Here’s an option Harris could go with to possibly rejuvenate the side going forward. Let’s experiment, nothing to lose considering we don’t have a winning combination yet. The reasons for having Pack and Murphy where I’ve put them is because Pack can be that ball playing Center half, so we don’t beed to waste a position in midfield always coming back to help with moving the ball forward, and Murphy behind the striker for me is his best position as he showed in the cup game, and also the game after it in the league where he scored another good goal from the central area.

GK Smithies

LB Smith

CB Pack

CB Morrison

RB Sanderson

LCM Ralls

RCM Vaulks

AM Murphy

LW Whyte

RW Adoma

CF Glatzel

Forgot the super subs.

So Paterson would be a good option for pumping balls in the box late in the game.

Bacuna a good replacement for either midfielder when we may need a fresh boost of energy through the middle

Ward a good replacement for Murphy in the middle late on.

I've not seen anything in pack to suggest he would be anything other than a disaster at CB, far to slow, not strong enough and although he can hit a decent pass he can also be very sloppy in possession.

In agree about Pack. Teams that tinker with formations and play players out of position inevitably perform poorly. A lot of relegation sides try this tactic. Keep players in their proper positions.

For Saturday I'd still go: Smithies, Sanderson, Morrison, Nelson, Bennett (even if he looks as though he can't be bothered), Adomah, Vaulks, Pack, Ralls, Murphy, Glatzel. Subs: Etheridge, Flint, Bacuna, Hoilett (sales as Bennett), Ward, Whyte, Paterson.

To directly reply to the “a lot of relegation sides try playing players out of position and it never works”

You realise we got promoted 2 seasons ago?

Bruno Manga, not played RB a day in his life, was our main Right Back.

Paterson who was signed as a RB was a consistent CAM for us behind Zohore.

Bamba occasionally played defensive midfield about 4 times (alright not many times but it worked)

Pilkington was a super sub upfront who - before 2017 was purely just a winger.

.
We got promoted BECAUSE we tinkered with Bruno, because we tinkered with Paterson, because Pilkington was our good luck charm upfront when we were desperate at the end of games.

I hope you’re not suggesting it would be a disaster if we tried something different to try and win a game, after losing 2 in a row before it.

thought he was bound to start after Harris saying how much time he spends with him 1 to 1 in training..
but sense prevailed and he at least gave us a chance
