Cardiff City fans must halt jeering of Josh Murphy, says Neil Harris and why Robert Glatzel mirroring Cristiano Ronaldo's CR7 is nonsense that has to stop
The Bluebirds fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night and, as always, there is a lot to mull over in the aftermath

Cardiff City lost ground in the play-off race with their disappointing 1-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest, which followed hot on the heels of another loss at Stoke.
Here are the talking points from Tuesday night... and there are lots of them.
Josh Murphy jeers
When Murphy was replaced by Danny Ward on 71 minutes, a chorus of cheers rang out from a small section of Cardiff City Stadium.
It wasn't the first time, either, some supporters also jeered Murphy when he was hooked against Preston before Christmas.
On the one hand, these fans are paying their hard-earned money and, as such, have a right to voice their opinions in however they see fit.
But it's never nice to see a player, who so clearly needs to feel loved, receive that sort of treatment. It just seems a little distasteful. Does it really help anyone?
Murphy is arguably Cardiff's most gifted player with the ball at his feet – that claim has even more grounds with Lee Tomlin consigned to the sidelines for much of the rest of the season.
Celtic were interested in signing him last month and in likelihood that could once again be the case this summer.
If the winger left for Glasgow, how depleted would the Bluebirds' creative ranks look then? And could anyone blame him for going if he gets jeered every time he doesn't have a good game?
Murphy can be frustrating, of course, but at least he tries to beat a man. It might not always come off, but he is willing to have a go.
Cardiff are in desperate need of creativity right at this moment in time.
Some fans bemoan the long-ball tactic and then jeer the one creative player on the pitch when he tries to skip past someone and it goes wrong. So what do they really want?
NEIL HARRIS:
"Murph divides opinion, doesn't he?," manager Neil Harris said after the match.
"We are all adults and football people, we know he divides opinion.
"Mo Salah gave the ball away three times last night in the Liverpool game I was watching and there was a reaction to him giving it away. He's one of the best players in the world!
"You never want to see your own players jeered as they come off.
"Some have that reaction, some clap him as he comes off as well, but it's always the minority you hear."
Before the game against Stoke last weekend, Murphy was the main man for City, scoring five goals in his last six games.
Everyone thought something had suddenly clicked, but following two quiet performances, some fans appear to have lost their patience again.
Murphy knows he is not everyone's cup of tea, Harris says, but the manager insisted his player is willing to fight to earn over the detractors.
"Fans want to see players with passion and commitment and fight and when he does that and adds the sparkle to his game, then he is one of the best wide players in the division," Harris continued.
"What he can't do is flit from being that star player to then go really quiet and in his shell. That's the challenge for me as a manager, to get the best out of him.
"Murph knows he has to work hard to win over everybody, but he's prepared to do that."
It's a case of being careful what you wish for. If Murphy leaves in the summer then Cardiff really are in strife when it comes to attacking options.

Harris, are you real. Murphy one of the best widemen in the Championship. If you think that then I think it is best you leave now.

He’s not even the best wife man at City when all fit.

What’s the Glatzel - CR37?
Wed Feb 26, 2020 4:21 pm
The fans, the players and the club are going through the motions right now. A major clear out is needed and I dread next season already
Wed Feb 26, 2020 4:40 pm
If Glatzel is being compared to Ronaldo then there is hope for ALL of us to play for CCFC
On a serious note Murphy needs to man up/grow up either way.... when he’s on form he is a brilliant player but his attitude lets him down, he sulks an awful lot on the pitch if things aren’t going his way...

I don’t rate Glatzel and thought he was not that great .
But
Media Wales / Glen Williams
A small positive to Tuesday night's performance was Robert Glatzel, who arguably had one of his better games in a Bluebirds shirt.
He was neat and tidy in possession, showed fight and courage in the challenge and won a number of free-kicks in dangerous areas.
The German striker was a handful for the Forest defence for the most part, it's just a shame he didn't bring his shooting boots.
Every time he looks to be getting into a favourable position, he dragged his shot wide or hammered it into a defender. He rarely seems to catch a shot from range flushly.
Add that to his game, though, and we might have a real forward on our hands. He showed enough against Forest to remind fans just what he is capable of.
One thing that certainly needs addressing, though, is this ' #RG9 ' business.
The club's social media posts and interviews on their website often refer to the 25-year-old as 'RG9' and use the hashtag on Twitter.
Now, I'm not sure whether that's a directive from the player, something that has been inserted into his contract, perhaps, or an attempt from the club to create 'Brand Glatzel', but it just looks a little daft.
CR7 I can get on board with, we can all acknowledge Cristiano Ronaldo has earned that right.
But it just doesn't strike the right tone when a striker who has had a middling season at best in the Championship has exchanged his last name for a Twitter hashtag.
But perhaps I'm just being a little pedantic.

I pay good money travelling home and away. Murphy is over paid, lazy and shit.
I’ll keep jeering until he pisses off elsewhere or starts earning his wage (if that could ever be possible)
Wed Feb 26, 2020 5:08 pm
Didn’t the club state that he doesn’t have any social media accounts so they would use RG9 tags for any posts regarding him as he is our No.9

Whilst I don't agree with jeering/booing one of our own,I have slated the boy for his sulky attitude! But only on here.can't see what it is meant to achieve by jeering him? He must know he's had a bad game,as soon as he gets hooked,I will say though, according to Harris he is willing to knuckle down and try to be consistent, how he can be described as shit I don't get? He is on his day,a joy to watch,it's his sulking ss when it's not happening for him he needs to work harder on imho

Wow. What a wonderful supporter you are.

Murphy most gifted player with ball at his feet???
When was the last time he beat a player?

You make ask when did Bennett or Ralls last find a team mate. Those two cretins need to go before Murphy. He’s one of our better players. I’d like Murphy to go tho.. for his sake, and to a club with some idea of what it is doing.

I’ve always used a simple rule of thumb when I watch my team,
Shout your support,
Talk under my breath when our player/team f**k up.
Works for me

What a great supporter you seem. He was poor last night but wasn't the only one....

Fans who jeer their own players are idiotic. No other way to put it. You’re not a fan if you jeer your own players, you’re a wannabe critic, embarrassing.
Wed Feb 26, 2020 8:30 pm
Utter crap. We’re not talking the dungeon years where we didn’t expect any differen from our players. Murphy doesn’t put a shift in and that’s a fact. It’s his attitude that’s grinds on me. I’ll assume you haven’t been to anyway games this year as this isn’t a one off occurrence.

A Cardiff City message board and someone calling Joe Bennett and Joe Ralls cretins. Unbelievable .
Wed Feb 26, 2020 9:39 pm
There is no excuse for pulling out of challenges and poor work rate. So he can shove the need to "be loved" up his arse.
Wed Feb 26, 2020 10:12 pm
Very poor and what will singling out Murphy achieve? Probably came from the same people that were harassing Sean Morrison and his wife. Pack,Bennett and hoilet where far worse but Murphy is the scapegoat
Thu Feb 27, 2020 7:29 am
Stop all this debate. Murphy is crap. He should never be in the squad again. Get rid ASAP. If Harris doesn't like the fans feelings he can do one as well.

a middling season ?
its catastrophic mate...
he has played roughly half the game time so far. { started 18 and 3 apps as a sub }
the half he was not on the park we have picked up 32 points.... over the entire 35 games that would put us on 64 points { 1 behind Leeds }
the half he was not on the park its 18 points.. extended over our 35 games so far that's 35 points ..which would put us 1 point more than Barnsley and 2 behind Wigan... the difference is to big to be coincidental...
we have scored 15 while he is on the park...33 when he isn't... middling?????????????????????????.. its really not the boys fault but he really shouldn't be anywhere near this division...

Modern day football fans... snowflakes
Leave it out , stop the herring, embarrassment to football fans .
Fri Feb 28, 2020 11:26 am
A team plays badly the fans have every right to let them know what they think - if they don't like the jeering theyshould focus on improving their performances instead of acting like snowflakes.

your probably correct about him not liking being booed, who would , but I don't see him complaining...those are Harris words and probably in answer to a question put to him...
personally I don't see what you get out of booing, or what anyone expects it to achieve.

money doesn't make your skin thicker though. you only have to look at celebs committing suicide over social media abuse to figure that out...these young men are all different personalities just like we are...and no doubt a bit of booing might make some more determined but have the complete opposite effect on others...I just want him to go out there confident ,no pressure other than the game itself not worrying if dai and bill are going to be booing him because he isn't a road digger..
