Harris: “If you can’t win games, you have to make sure that

Mon Feb 24, 2020 9:18 am

Stoke City 2 Cardiff City 0

Neil Harris: “From the first whistle to the last, we were nowhere near the standards that we’ve set, individually nor collectively.”

“We keep giving away goals and this time we gave two poor goals away, which is not good enough.”

“If you can’t win games, you have to make sure that you don’t concede, and you don’t lose them. We gave two poor goals away, which is not good enough. At the other end of the pitch we missed that little bit of a spark. Today we didn’t make good decisions with the ball.”

“Losing Lee Tomlin to injury before the game was a blow, but we have to adjust as a group. We’ve scored goals from different avenues since I’ve been here, and we’ll have to continue doing that. We have players who can score goals, and this presents an opportunity for others to now do this.”

Harris continued: “We have to make sure that this game was a one-off. When you play again so soon.”

“If we’re serious about the play-offs we have to beat the teams around us. With two huge games in four days next week, it’s a huge chance for us. I’m looking forward to Tuesday night, and seeing how my team responds.”

We haven’t been good enough all season, not just Harris but warnock before him didn’t get the striker in we all knew we needed, easy said that done I know, but it needs to be fixed to be able to turn the draws into wins,we are a mid table side, but the division is so poor a couple of wins can push you into top six,a big chance missed this season

I said last July/August we needed a quality striker, but was shot down by the usual suspects.

Was it? In what way was it shot down for context?

Glaringly obviously we needed a quality striker. This is the same for any club really.

Lurking ready to pounce

Here’s one now

Saying about spending and finances.

But in the long run it’s more costly, cost us staying in the Premier and cost us promotion this season.

To be fair, we were all hoping last July/August that Glatzel was going to be the striker we needed

Agree sadly hasn't worked out how can you go from scoring a hat trick against bayern to what he's produced for us

Question is what side did Bayern put out?,all looks good on your cv,scoring a hat trick but was it against Bayern’s Munich full strength side?

I would say we have dropped more points because of poor defending and poor team selections than the striker bring an issue.

While I agree we do need a new striker I dont think thats the sole reason we arent pushing for the playoffs.

Its all very well Harris saying if we cant win we got to draw, yeah I get it, but far to often it seems the draw is the plan and that fine line between winning and drawing isnt being pushed. Yes we havent lost many with this attitude but we are drawing far to many as well.

We have not look good at the back all season imo ....like the midfield , we lack pace esp when Nelson wasn’t being picked .
As for a goalscorer, I said we should have gone for someone like Gayle even if it cost us a fortune.
Glatziel has never got going and Ward isn’t good enough leaving us now with Paterson who is a trier and gives 100% but ain’t gonna get us the goals we need when we are defending so poorly at times....the 2 goals on Saturday were pathetic.

yes, but if you lose the ball cheaply at one end invariably it finds its way down the other , and the more you fefend { especially when initially on the front foot } the more likely a mistake.we pose zero threat with Glatzel and its no accident that we do not win games when he starts.its happening far too often to just be a coincidence..

While I admit he wasn't pulling up trees or banging in goals but I thought Glatzel was superb lastnight and was one out of a handful of players who didn't deserve criticism for lastnight.

he runs around enough. and he does not pick himself ,the manager picks him . but he does nothing clever and does not bother defenders...it was not just last night ,he just is nowhere near good enough and we just do not win when he plays..

he has started 18 games...we won 5 of those..3 times scoring winning goals after he was taken off.
we have scored 48 goals this season... 15 when he is on the field, 33 when he is not..
and if you extend the points we have picked up while he has been on the park over the 35 games played so far we would be on 35 , 1 point above the drop zone.
coincidence ?
completely out of his depth is what I see.. and im puzzled by the superb type comments.

I was talking about lastnight alone. Yes, suberb may have been a bit of an overstatement but I don't think he had a bad game. He beat his man a few times with some neat touches then knocking it around and running on to it. I agree he isn't the answer and we need a lot better if we are seriously going to challenge but again going on lastnight alone i was happy with his performance. Him, Sanderson and Vaulks I thought had a decent game everyone else was dogshit, Hoilett and Murphy in particular.

Hardly lurking ready to pounce. Barely on this board lately. Comments like that aren’t very welcoming either. I’ve actually been watching oxford a lot more. It reminds me of what we once we were like. They need a Sam type figure (without the paying himself more than half the squad, loans from himself and other debt obviously) to really make them go.

All for debate apparently apart from when you are called out on something you wrote then it’s ‘usual suspects’ bollocks.

Buying a new striker wouldn’t necessarily have got us promoted. Then we would have x amounts of millions in transfer fees and the wages that would have followed. Didn’t we buy a striker too??

If you want a debt free club we simply can’t spend willy nilly. Ole was given millions and it didn’t work. Left us fucked for years. The parachute payments are two years only.

Derby, Bristol City, Birmingham, Reading, Huddersfield all bought expensively in the Summer. Not much difference between us and them.

Yep, their top scorer is free transfer Hal Robson Kanu.

Imagine what the ‘usual suspects’ would say if we signed a striker on a free?

come on mate you know better... free transfer does not mean free at all... Messi has it in his contract he can leave for no fee...do you think that would be a free transfer....players who run down their contracts often do so to pick up the bulk of what a transfer fee would have been for them selves...

Fully agree however a player with no fee then.

Tan would get slated to high heaven.
