I don't think we just boot it long anymore ,the defenders are starting to play the ball to the midfielder's under Harris, under warnock that use to just hit it long or out of touch, definitely play the ball back to smithies more rather than into touch tooBLUEUSA wrote:I watch most of the videos posted on the club site, including the one's showing the training preparation for matches. Something that always strikes me is how much short, tappy tap, passing the players seem to do. It strikes me as kind of odd as we are still booting the long ball forward to our non existent strikers for them to hold up and lay off to non existent forward running players. Surely what they should be practicing in training is long balls back and forth until they can pass a long ball forward to a player in an actual game. I'm not suggesting that we might have a team with David Beckham's skills but, how about managing 5 accurate long balls in a match.
The worse culprit was always Neil Etheridge (who would be an excellent keeper if he could kick a ball out accurately) but high up there has to be Nelson, Whyte, Pack, Murphy & Hoilet.
Secondly, how about teaching the skill of passing a ball for a player to run on to it. Most of our passes are static to players who are often standing still. Running off the ball seems to also be lacking and we also can't seem to handle quick playing out from the back.
Tomlin being out for weeks is seriously going to affect the team, so hopefully Ralls will be available again in the near future.
