About Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest Football Club, often referred to as Forest, is a professional football club based in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, England. Since 1898 Forest have played their home matches at the City Ground. They currently compete in the EFL Championship, the second tier of the English football league system.

Forest have won 1 League title, 2 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 1 FA Charity Shield, 2 European Cups, and 1 UEFA Super Cup. The club has competed in the top two tiers of English football since their admission to the Football League, except for five seasons spent in the third tier. Their most successful period was under the management of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

In Clough's last decade at the club, Forest won the 1989 and 1990 League Cups and were losing finalists in the 1991 FA Cup Final, before relegation from the Premier League in 1993. Upon an immediate return Forest finished third in the Premier League in 1995, before the club suffered relegation again in 1997 and, after a brief return, once more in 1999. Forest have not been back in the Premier League since.

Forest contest the Nottingham derby with city rivals Notts County, however as Forest have predominantly played in higher leagues than their neighbours fixtures between the two clubs have been rare in recent history. As such their main rivalry is with Derby County, and matches between the two clubs are known as the East Midlands derby.

Previous Meeting

We beat Forest in November with Nathaniel Mendez-Laing getting the only goal.

We couldn't beat an egg at the moment.

Has to be an easy win for Forest sadly.

These were the sort of games when the chips were down where Warnock would pull a rabbit out of the hat and get a win. He seemed to thrive in adversity. What will Harris conjure up? 1 v 1 draw, at best.

Tomlin has been carrying us with his goals, assists and creativity. I can see us going back to a few weeks ago now, flat.

Tough side with a good defence but I have a feeling we will sneak a 1-0 win as we have a good record against them recently for some reason.

The early Cardiff City vs Nottingham Forest team news

The Bluebirds welcome Forest to Cardiff City Stadium tonight and they will have to be creative if they are to fill the void left by two potent attacking threats

Cardiff City will have to fill two sizeable holes in their forward line against Nottingham Forest tonight with both Lee Tomlin and Albert Adomah missing.

As we know, Tomlin is set to miss up to eight weeks owing to a knee injury he sustained in training last week, but it will be a double blow being without Adomah.

The Ghanaian winger has added real impetus to the Bluebirds' attacking ranks since joining on loan on deadline day last month and has been an instant hit among fans.

But he will be ineligible to play tonight, given the game is against his parent club.

It means Neil Harris has the unenviable task of replacing both Tomlin and Adomah in the starting XI, with the Bluebirds desperately needing a win after their play-off hopes took a hit in defeat by Stoke City last weekend.

How Harris sets up his side tonight will be very interesting. He opted for Callum Paterson in behind Danny Ward at the bet365 Stadium, but the gamble didn't pay off.

It is likely we will see the return of Paterson up front, a position in which he has thrived in recent months, with Joe Ralls potentially slotting into a more advanced midfield role, ahead of the established Marlon Pack and Will Vaulks partnership.

Joe Ralls (R) might get his first start since December tonight
Gavin Whyte is expected to slot in with Adomah unavailable as a like-for-like replacement.

The other area of intrigue is at full-back. Both Joe Bennett and Jazz Richards have racked up the minutes in recent weeks and are perhaps in need of rotation, with games now coming thick and fast.

January signings Dion Sanderson and Brad Smith are both yet to feature for the Bluebirds, however that could certainly change this week.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Isaac Vassell and Matthew Connolly are the long-term absentees.

What are the odds?

The Bluebirds have been made slight favourites for the clash.

Cardiff are priced at 11/8 for the win.

The draw meanwhile, is priced at 23/10, while a Forest win is currently 2/1 (odds via SkyBet).

For tonight's visitors, meanwhile, there are doubts over Samba Sow (knee), Sammy Ameobi (hips) and Lewis Grabban (knee), who has been in incredible goalscoring form this season with 16 in all competitions.

Nuno da Costa will definitely miss the clash with a muscle injury, too.

Tendayi Darikwa is a long-term absentee owing to an ACL injury he sustained last summer.

Who is the referee?

The referee for tonight's match is Stephen Martin.

This will be the first time he has refereed a Bluebirds game since the 2-2 draw with Reading in December 2017.

We’ll slip into mid table territory and further down after our next half a dozen games.

Thankfully we’ve got enough points.

The rest of the season is going to be tedious tiresome and a chore.

We look like we are on the beach already no shape whatsoever looking like a tough night no options when in possession i.e Glatzel’s terrible shot as I type

Cold, damp with zero atmosphere. It’s hard to love City at the moment and I’m seriously considering going home at half time.
