Cardiff City centre-back Sol Bamba claims 'everyone is laughing at Leeds United' for appearing to fall apart, but has told his former club they must show character if they are to get promoted to the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa's side have hit a brick wall since they relinquished a three-goal lead against the Bluebirds just before Christmas.

Following that match up at Elland Road, Leeds embarked on a woeful run which yielded only two wins out of their subsequent 11 games.

Indeed, the clash with the Bluebirds has had a profound effect on Bielsa himself, with the Leeds boss having admitted after last weekend's win over Bristol City that the Cardiff result still haunts him.

Their points drop off has seen the top of the table tighten dramatically in recent weeks, with Leeds, who once held a 13-point lead over third place, now just three points ahead of Fulham.

It all sets itself up for a humdinger of a promotion race as the season hits crunch point, but Bamba, who played for Leeds for a year, has urged them to stick to their guns if they are to earn one of those automatic spots.

"They just have to do what they have been doing all season [to get over the line]," Bamba, who earned promotion with the Bluebirds two seasons ago, said on Sky Sports via HITC. "Don't change anything because they have been successful so far and that's why they are where they are.

"I don't think they need to change anything. But make sure the losses don't affect them. Leeds everyone's laughing and saying 'they are falling apart'.

"I think they need to show character and make sure what has taken them to second place, they carry one doing it and making sure they stay in there."

With just 13 games to go, the Bluebirds are also very much within the race to cause a stir at the top end of the table.

City sit just outside the top six, just three points outside the play-offs, having enjoyed a tremendous run of results of late.

They are undefeated in their last seven Championship matches and, heading into this weekend's encounter with Stoke City, will certainly be brimming with confidence and eyeing those teams above them.

Just because he’s made a comment on his old club doesn’t mean he should look at his own game ffs.
The two are not even remotely linked.

He may be struggling to get back into the first team but that’s because of the form of Morrison & Nelson and the fact of his injury and long lay off.

Perhaps he won’t get back to his previous high level but that definitely won’t be because he’s “laughing” at Leeds.
