Joe Day stars for Wimbledon

There always appeared to be one too many senior goalkeepers at Cardiff City this season, with Joe Day, Alex Smithies and Neil Etheridge all in the ranks.

So it tallied up when Day made a late switch to League One outfit AFC Wimbledon in the winter window in a bid to get some much-needed game- time under his belt.

Last week, against Ipswich, he was the star of the show as Wimbledon held on for a 0-0 draw. He made two crucial saves to deny Ipswich marksman James Norwood in the second half with the visitors banging down the door.

Then, in the final few minutes, Day kept Will Keane at bay to ensure a point was earned.

He let in two on the weekend against table-topping Rotherham, however, but Day has now bedded in as first-choice at Kingsmeadow.

The 29-year-old has played 90 minutes in all five matches since joining the club.

I think your right but it wouldn't concern me to have him as number 2 next season.

I don't think it makes to much sense to have two bigger earners as goal keepers personally so if we have move one on especially for a fee then I wouldn't mind him being number 2.

I think we will sell either Etheridge or Smithies in the Summer if we get the right price. Joe would be No 2 and young Radcliffe No 3 unless we send he out on loan to a League side for more experience?

Hes a league 2 keeper and nowhere near good enough as a back up for a top championship team.

Annis, I was told that Day will become a decent No.2 goalkeeper, which for me suggests one (and I am sure of which) of our keepers will be moved on in the summer

A healthy bid was apparently made in January and City wanted to take it but it didn't go through for reasons undisclosed

Oops! Last time I checked he had let 4 in against Oxford, no idea if it finished that way, :old: :bluebird:

Maybe I’m a bit old fashioned or missing something but I reckon if someone is performing well in goal at league 1-2 standard, then the jump to championship (particularly if numbed 2) would not be as big a jump as an outfield player?
