DEBT FREE THEN WHAT?

Sun Feb 02, 2020 11:49 am

Did i read somewhere on the forum that in late 20/20 we are going to be somewhere near debt free, so what happens then,
do we then go beserk spending big money , or a big sale and overhaul?
fans have been, on the whole pretty understanding over the last few seasons about paying off debts and not throwing big money about,so what can we expect,
It would be interesting to know whats the long term plan is at the end of 20/20,
could anybody enlighten me ?.

Debt free would mean a more viable club to sell but there in lies the problem what kind of owner could we get? A Charlton or Swansea kind or the good owner like wolves type? :old:

A bit of an uncertain future. In the fifty plus years I have been a supporter, I can only recall two owners who have ever shown any inclination to put money into the club. One of those is our current owner. If he sells and if our past is anything to go by, we will not be seeing much in the way of investment for quite a while. Owners who put their hands deep into their own pockets do not come around very often.

The club has to become self sufficient and stop hoping someone will come in and throw big sums about, it will only ever end in agony and we'll be back to square one when they get fed up with their little plaything.

I'd rather watch a well run club in league one than a massively in debt wondering if we'll finish each season in the Championship. We'd all love to see us in the top flight competing for spots in Europe and cup finals however we've all seen the mess that Pompey amongst others had to go through and that doesn't appeal to me much.

Debt free is a bit of a misleading phrase.

If my company is losing 3 million a year and I wipe the debts the club has to me after keeping it afloat for all the years I have owned it... it still doesn’t really make it debt free or a viable purchase as the second someone buys it, it will be in debt again.

So debt free isn’t really the issue, being self sufficient and solvent is what the aim should be, if not then from the second you are declared “debt free”, the debts start mounting again.

As above, self sufficiency, solvency and financial stability a massive result if VT can deliver. Too many examples both within the football community and in the general business world highlighting the perils of instability and financial over stretch.

This post sums up why people cannot stand him.....
He's missed point that we are referring to the 100m+ debt we had previously that tan is turning into equity and what happens after that debt is paid! We didn't want his expert opinion of how a business is run that was not what fans are asking :old:

What do you mean what will happen? Nothing will happen.

But unless you solve what is causing the debt then it doesn’t really matter does it? You will have the debt back in no time at all.

MARTY9

just wondering what will happen when the decks are cleared
at the moment we are keeping finances tight, are we still going to keep that up? or free up more funds to rebuild the squad etc.

I just put it out there as a question between fans on the forum, i suppose i could write a letter to mr tan asking him whats the crack,
But there would be to many spelling mistakes and my grammar is supposedly appauling according to the gifted on here.

Depends what you mean by when the decks are cleared really.

Do you mean when the club can support itself and is no longer taking on any more debt? Or do you mean when Tan physically writes off existing debt?

If it’s the latter then it won’t make any difference, you will be in no different situation than you are now really. But it will make the club slightly easier to sell, but only slightly if that loss is still there on a monthly basis.
