" CARDIFF CITY AGAIN STARTED SLOWLY "

CARDIFF CITY AGAIN STARTED SLOWLY BUT CAME BACK IN THE SECOND HALF TO DRAW

CARDIFF CITY 1-1 READING

Neil Harris made one change to the starting line up, with Lee Tomlin replacing Robert Glatzel. This meant that Callum Paterson started on his own up front.

Smithies, Richards, Morrison, Nelson, Bennett, Pack, Vaulks, Whyte, Hoilett, Tomlin, Paterson

It was an even start to the match, with Junior Hoilett missing the target early on

GOAL: CARDIFF CITY 0-1 READING - In the 8th minute, Yakou Meite headed in from close range to give the visitors the lead with their first attempt

Lee Tomlin tried to respond quickly for Cardiff but his shot went just over

Sean Morrison had his header saved in the 28th minute and then Will Vaulks shot over

Baldock was booked for Reading just before half time

HALF TIME: CARDIFF CITY 0-1 READING

Neil Harris brought on Leandro Bacuna and Danny Ward at half time, replacing Gavin Whyte and Junior Hoilett

Lee Tomlin headed wide in the 55th minute

Jazz Richards and Jordan Obita booked in the 56th minute

Richards had a chance in the 64th minute but couldn't test the goalkeeper

GOAL: CARDIFF CITY 1-1 READING - Callum Paterson smashed home from close range to get the Bluebird level

City nearly took the lead in the 74th minute but couldn't find the net after a scramble in the box

Cardiff City had dominated the second half and looked to be the more likely to win the match heading into the last 15 minutes

Bacuna had a shot deflected over in the 83rd minute

Nelson booked in the 88th minute

FULL TIME: CARDIFF CITY 1-1 READING

My MOTM Callum Paterson :thumbright:

Next up Reading at home on Tuesday

All the possession 2nd half but with little impact near goal... cannot see it changing unless we've managed to get adohma in to alter way we attack as we are very ineffective to say the least.

No idea what to say. Same as always with Harris, great performance against West Brom then look flat, start slowly concede and get the equaliser. Same old same old

Deserved to win. Referee was awful and consistently awarded free kicks against City. We need a striker, end of. Its a shame because a win was needed tonight to gain momentum for a late run for the a play offs but we are a mid table side this year. The football is improving under Harris for me with more possession and thought to the play. We are building for next season but must have more quality in the middle and a striker. How many seasons now?!!!

I've supported Harris a lot since he took charge but have to admit this wasn't a good performance.

Some very strange tactical decisions.

Agree with this. By far the better team but little end product.

Problem is the improvement and things have improved despite what is said are overshadowed by these draws! Poor 1st half better 2nd half deserved win but like you say lack the striker to turn pressure into goals it is very frustrating watching it as know we could and should win games like tonight ...

Well hoillett was crap again and needed to be subbed, whyte I feel was sacrificed to bring ward on as needed support for Paterson who was ineffective 1st half .. it certainly changed 2nd half as it was all city except for occasionally reading breaking out.

Very true bacuna made big difference coming on ward helped Paterson but still lacked the clear cut chances for ward to score Paterson needs to stand on line every corner throw in as he gets into right place right time and ball just falls to his feet..

We need wingers to put in good crosses hoillett doesn't do that and hasn't most season! so why not try something different But all that did 2nd half was to give city persistant pressure without effect..

3 games in 6 days?

Re: MY VIEW " CARDIFF CITY AGAIN STARTED SLOWLY "

PEMBROKE ALLAN

I would always keep 1 winger on the field, or play with just 1 winger and get him to switch wings throught the game.

PEMBROKE ALLAN

put a rocket up murphys arse or f.ck him off and find a winger thats hungry granted holliet has seen better days but he is to defensive perhaps this new guy at left back will tell holliet f.ck off out of my half and push him further up the pitch.

Needs something because it's been like it most season! Problem with it is it reduces the ball going into middle or we dont get behind defenders to give glatzel kind chances he got against Wednesday! Would apply to Paterson or ward as well and that is where we are failing
hence all these forwards

Disappointing after Tue but predicted 1-1.
Our problem too predictable.

Ned,

Yet again sloppy start by Cardiff , but am by the end of the game Cardiff deserved 3pts.
Def 2pts lost.

Had to make substitutions at half time to make a difference.

Harris picked the starting X1 which obviously was a mistake.

Bacuna was so more effective out wide than Hoilett.

Ward should have buried that chance.

Not 2 points dropped IMO as you can’t usually win a game of football only playing for 45 minutes.

BTW how bad was that excuse for a ref?

You can not give teams a few goals and the first half every bloody game !!!!!

WTF does he and his "group" do all week ?

No one, absolutely no one plays with two wingers and 2 forwards like the 80's, against most teams you'd get so over run in midfield you'd only see the ball at restarts after their goals. Getting to the byline and crossing it for a number 9 to head it in is for the big match revisited. Effectively we played 424.

Malky never played with wingers, wide midfielders sometimes central midfielders but no pace.

Warnock played wide forwards, pace to scare but kept 3 genuine midfeilders in the middle !!

Today we started with Paterson a medium pace trier, Holliet great skill but lost a yard and Whyte who is quick but not a burner and Tomlin with close skill and a deceptive turn of pace over 10 meters. In midfield we have Vaulks another medium pacer, then there is a special slowness scale for Pack.

The change to a diamond, sent the full backs forward...Hallelujah Paterson got in the way, but he can sniff a goal.

The change was so dramatic it appears to be another last roll of the dice, do or die second half gamble.

This manager is lower league at best. Not every Ex footballer has the minerals or right to be a manager of a decent championship club.

But it's ok to have a young inexperienced manager from lower league as some have wanted? As I've said a new manager can take team up or down such is the gamble with managers.

We were awful first half and dramatically better second. Hoillet and Whyte didn't deliver but we were completely outplayed and out muscled in midfield. Ovie Ajara was outstanding and the other one not bad either. Pack could not live with them. Nothing went Patersons way first half and his frustrations led to needless freekicks being conceded to a flakey ref. That changed second half too. Reading played with two strikers but still ran the midfield first half. Ward and Bacuna and the system both helped us get further up pitch second half in a strangely open and end to end game. Reading always looked dangerous on breaks. We had loads of second half corners which were all down our right so fortunately taken by Bennett who delivered well. Packs delivery is utterly shite and have no idea how us on any dead ball duties. Reading hammered us there so it has to show improvement when we are disappointed we didn't win.
