" Millwall respond to Reading accusations "

Thu Jan 30, 2020 8:05 pm

Millwall Football Club wishes to update its supporters with the latest information surrounding allegations of homophobic mass chanting during the victory over Reading at The Den on Saturday 18th January 2020.

The club instigated an immediate investigation into the allegations which has been every bit as thorough and exhaustive as is appropriate in such circumstances.

Despite this comprehensive investigation, however, no evidence has come to light to substantiate the allegations.

The club was immensely disappointed by the media coverage of this incident and was especially outraged by outlets whose use of language implied guilt before any facts were established. Such blatant misreporting is extremely harmful to the reputation of its supporters and to the efforts of the entire football family in fighting all forms of discrimination. The club has already received apologies from some of the news organisations concerned and now anticipates similarly widespread reporting of this outcome to its investigation into the matter.

Millwall would like to thank fans for their outstanding ongoing support both on and off the pitch.

I was at the Reading game and I can state for a fact that no racist or homophic comments were heard by me or by any of my mates who were dotted around our end.

I wasn't there but I suspect the same at the Millwall game from the many comments I've read from Millwall fans.

WTF is going on? If this tinpot club is allowed to dictate an unprecedented policy of "we decide what is acceptable", genuine football fans may as well pack their bags and go home!!

This needs to be nipped in the bud, and Reading FC need to take a long hard look at their own policies and sort themselves out. :bluebird:

f*cking EU regulations. we.l soon be sheep shaggers again, and not the "wall" will be "the wall". Bants will always be BANTS. no matter if a scruffy gypsy called jack says so. And im sure Celtic, scousers, and the likes will still get away with blue murder and fly their flagss of anti UK. PMSL good luck with that

It makes one wonder if it’s a tactic to distract the opposition team. Now, not for one min am I accusing reading as a club of doing this but it could be down to 1 or 2 individuals. It’s just funny how this has happened twice now and amounting to nothing. As a player I’m sure you would be pretty annoyed if you thought your own fans were carrying out racists or homophobic chanting. I wonder if we are an easy target too and it’s easy to accuse us due to the chants that we do sing such as jack bast, anti English etc. Just a theory that’s all.

Of course, if the steward or whoever genuinely thought this kind of chanting (racist and homophobic) was going on, than Absolutely it should be reported.

the announcement was clearly to the away end.
this then changed to a small group... 4 young men.. do you really need a stadium announcement because 4 people are playing up ?
I don't understand how anyone could make the decision to make an announcement mate.. if it were you that had to decide after this was being reported wouldn't you be thinking. well I haven't heard racist and homophobic chanting { think its fair to say everyone at the game was shocked when it was announced } . and check it out ? I would. and if I was told it was 4 or half a dozen id be telling the stewards to chuck em out.
