TEAM NEWS 28/01/20 :bluebird:

Cardiff City striker Danny Ward will miss tonight's clash with West Brom having been deemed unfit following further head injury assessments.

The Bluebirds striker was taken off against Birmingham City 10 days ago owing to a head injury and subsequently missed last weekend's tie with Reading in line with concussion protocols.

It was thought, however, that Ward, who scored twice in the reverse fixture at The Hawthorns, would return for the visit of the Baggies, but he is not fit enough to be included tonight.

Elsewhere, the Bluebirds are left sweating over the fitness of key duo Lee Peltier and Joe Ralls.

Peltier hobbled off in the South Wales derby against Swansea City with a dead leg and it appears to have taken some time for that to heal.

It is still unknown whether he will be fit enough to take the pitch this evening.

Ralls, meanwhile, continues his rotten relationship with injury. The midfielder has endured an awful time of it in recent months and last Saturday, after 30 superb minutes, was once again victim of injury against the Royals.

The midfielder trudged off after just half an hour with a hip issue and he will also undergo a late assessment to ascertain whether he is fit enough to face the Baggies.

It means Will Vaulks, who was excellent in last weekend's FA Cup tie, could fill the void left by Ralls alongside Marlon Pack, with Leandro Bacuna potentially slotting in again at right back if Peltier misses out.

Harris will likely revert back to his centre-back pairing of choice in Sean Morrison and Curtis Nelson, meaning Sol Bamba and Aden Flint drop out.

Up top it now appears a straight shootout between Robert Glatzel and Callum Paterson, with Omar Bogle seemingly out of favour. While Glatzel enjoyed a decent outing at the Madejski Stadium, the Scot has been in excellent form of late and could well get the nod.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Isaac Vassell and Matthew Connolly remain the long-term injuries.

About West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion Football Club is a football club based in West Bromwich, West Midlands, England. They currently play in the Championship, the second tier of English football. The club was formed in 1878 and has played at its home ground, The Hawthorns, since 1900. The club is commonly known as West Bromwich or just West Brom.

Albion were one of the founding members of the Football League in 1888, the first professional football league in the world, and have spent the majority of their existence in the top tier of English football. They have been champions of England once, in 1919–20, and have been runners-up twice. Albion have reached ten FA Cup finals, winning the Cup on five occasions. The first win came in 1888, the year the league was founded, and the most recent in 1968, their last major trophy. They also won the Football League Cup at the first attempt in 1966. The club's longest continuous period in the top division spanned 24 years between 1949 and 1973, and from 1986 to 2002 they spent their longest ever spell out of the top division.

The team has played in navy blue and white stripes for most of the club's history; and the club badge features a throstle perched on a hawthorn branch. Albion have a number of long-standing rivalries with other West Midlands clubs; their traditional rivals being Aston Villa, Birmingham City, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Albion contest the Black Country Derby with the latter.

WBA haven’t won in the league since 14/12/19. Lost last 2 at home.

But they’ll face a mediocre ponderous lack lustre goal shy sieve like defence team so expect WBA to win

Going to be another draw isn’t it.

Some sloppy defending give an early goal away Zohore will probably score it.

Then an 89th minute equaliser from us after being useless for 75 minutes but nobody will admit it because we were good for 15.

West Brom without five key players at Cardiff - but Bluebirds are depleted too
ByJoseph Chapman

West Brom will be without five first-team players when they head to Cardiff City on Tuesday night, but Slaven Bilic is expected to call on a number of senior stars who were given a breather in the weekend’s FA Cup victory over West Ham United.

Semi Ajayi, a former Cardiff player of course, will sit out what would’ve been a return to his former haunt after he picked up two yellow cards and a consequent red in the win over the Hammers.

He will serve a one-match ban here, but he’ll be available for the visit of Luton Town on Saturday.

Elsewhere, the Baggies will be once again without Matheus Pereira, as he serves the second of a three game ban handed to him retrospectively after he caught Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen with his elbow in the defeat to the Potters last Monday.

Grady Diangana is hopeful that his injury picked up in the same game isn’t as bad as first feared, but he won’t be ready in time for the trip to the Welsh capital.

Neither will full-backs Kieran Gibbs and Nathan Ferguson, who both remain sidelined with respective hamstring and knee injuries.

Bilic, though, will more than likely bring back midfield pair Romaine Sawyers and Jake Livermore, centre half Kyle Bartley and right-back Darnell Furlong as well as goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

The missing quintet will be a particularly big blow to Bilic, though, having made up half of the side who have dragged Albion to the top of the league table.

The Bluebirds have injury worries of their own, too.

Danny Ward, who scored twice in the reverse fixture at The Hawthorns when Albion ran out 4-2 victors, suffered concussion in the recent draw with Birmingham City and missed the FA Cup tie at Reading last weekend as a consequence - he is a doubt for tomorrow.

Defender Lee Peltier has been absent since the South Wales derby and is touch and go to be available for selection, while Joe Ralls was hooked after 30 minutes on Saturday with a hip problem. Beyond that, Lee Tomlin wasn’t in the squad on the weekend owing to a back issue.

1-1 ....can’t see us keeping a clean sheet at mo and hopefully wba carry on with their poor run .

But if we were to sneak a win then could be the kickstart to a few wins.
Come on bluebirds!!

Can’t see it we just don’t threaten enough or have enough ability in the final third. The defence is looking a lot stronger but can’t see who is actually going to put the ball in the onion bag

I have voted a win tonight for us more in hope but surely we are due a good result that might just kick us on lets hope we go for it and don' t go all defensive, we need to take a big scalp to give us a lift.

Rarely hope we win and it makes me regret not going, but i can't see past a fking dire game of trying to just stop WBA.

Be happy with a draw but just feel we will lose 1 nil to some dumb goal

Match facts

Cardiff City’s last home league match against West Bromwich was a 1-0 Premier League victory in December 2013 - just hours before the sacking of then Baggies boss Steve Clarke.

Albion, who beat Cardiff 4-2 at The Hawthorns in October, last completed a league double over the Bluebirds back in the 1974-75 season.

Cardiff have only been defeated once at home in the league this season - the fewest home defeats of any Championship side.

Albion have earned just four points from their last six matches, Only Luton (1) have picked up fewer in that time.

Lee Tomlin has been directly involved in 11 goals (5 goals and 6 assists) in 19 Championship matches this season. In 19 League One matches on loan with Peterborough last season he was involved in just three (two goals and one assist).

Albion are conceding 0.79 goals per game away from home in the Championship this season, compared to 1.43 per game at The Hawthorns.

Seriously I look at our squad and just can’t see them coming up with anything. A neat bit of link up, a defence splitting pass, a run past a player down the wing... we have a terrible squad

Better from Cardiff. Gavin Whyte is found outside the box and drives towards goal. He sets it back for Hoilett, who whips in his trademark cross looking for Paterson and Pack, but it;s slightly over-hit. Goal kick. But good from Cardiff.

The ball falls down to Jake Livermore on the edge of the box and his left-footed effort goes close, but just wide from 20 yards.
