ARE WE GOING TO BE DEBT FREE END OF NEXT SEASON

Thu Jan 23, 2020 1:39 pm

Did i read end of 20/20 season we would be debt free, we would be a good prospect for somebody with no debts, but does this stop us building or changing the squad for the future now,
or do we have to wait till the summer?.

would love someone ITK to answer this. that would be a huge achievment not just for us, but for a championship club, with losses at stupid rates at the end of each season

Being debt free is largely irrelevant if the club is not solvent, the only person the club will owe money to is Tan as he covers the shortfall the club has. So not really an achievement as such if he ''writes it off''. What you want to be is self sufficient, that would be an attractive prospect for someone. Otherwise after a season the club will be back in debt again.

However looking at the accounts, the only reason the books aren't showing tens of millions of debt is because so much is being ''offset'' by the value of the stadium, which isn't really the true picture of where you are as a stadium isn't really a saleable asset.

Wouldn't say invest is an accurate term. He covers the shortfall that the club has to stop it going bust while limiting investment in the squad. He doesn't really have a choice as you have no notable academy to speak of really.

We face a different problem due to our decade of success comes massive overheads. You don't have players on 80k a week or a 3.4 million a year academy to upkeep as you only stayed in the PL for one season. However as we do, we need to cut our cloth accordingly now we are back in the Championship and make cutbacks on our expenditure that is currently at PL level in some areas.

Rocket science it aint.

Tan will be good to his word. He will make plus debt free and solvent then probably sell up.

Some fans need to be very careful what they wish for because Vincent Tan has been a brilliant owner. He will be nearly impossible to replace and I can see in 10 years time everybody wishing he was still here and begging him to come back if we do not get the right buyer when he does sell.
Look at Swansea, Bolton and Sunderland for clubs who had good owners who were hounded out. Look at the mess of those 3 clubs now, all three would take the old owners back in a heartbeat

No one can answer that other than Tan who for 10 years has been promising Cardiff to be finally debt free.
What I can say it’s finally looking to be that way :bluebird:

When it happens he will have stuck to his word a lot more than previous owners ever did. Apart for the rebrand mistake he has been an excellent owner.

Saved us from being a possible Bury and had our most successful seasons on the pitch since he took over.

I want him to stay as who knows what a new owner will do - could run up massive debts and still not get promoted them and what was the point !

How do you work out Swansea had good owners who were hounded out? :?

I don't think there are many Swansea fans that would take the old board back.
