‘ Cardiff City latest on transfers in/out ‘

Thu Jan 23, 2020 8:21 am

Cardiff are looking to allow third-choice goalkeeper Joe Day to leave the club on loan this month.

It was initially thought that the keeper, who signed from Newport County last summer, would step in as No.2 should one of Neil Etheridge or Alex Smithies.

Cardiff have so far not received one official bid for Neil Etheridge even though other clubs have been alerted that the goalkeeper is for sale.

Cardiff are lumbered with three senior goalkeepers, which is never an ideal scenario.

It is understood that Bristol Rovers have shown an interest in taking Joe Day, with their first-choice goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola thought to be out for most of the rest of the season.

But while the trail on a new striker also appears to have gone a little cold, the Bluebirds hope Day can get out there and get some game time under his belt before the end of the season.

The same applies for Cameron Coxe and Mark Harris, two promising academy players at Cardiff City.

While there has been no concrete interest as yet, the club are hoping they can expose these two to regular first-team football as well, which might see them drop to League Two or even venturing up to Scotland has been mentioned as a possibility, as Ciaron Brown has done with Livingston.

In terms of incomings, there is little to report at present, City are also still looking to offload a few more players.

Neil Harris:

"I’m working as hard as I can to find the right deals for us, because ultimately they have to be the right deals for us.”

Four players have left Cardiff so far. Armand Traore and Brian Murphy have not had their contracts extended, Ciaron Brown has gone on loan to Livingston, plus Madine's exit and gone on a Free to Blackpool with Cardiff settling with Madine. There is potential for Cameron Coxe and Mark Harris to be sent out on loan.

Plus more players to leave.

I see no point in paying millions in Jan .

We need to rebuild but that is for the summer .

If we were serious promotion challengers then yes but let's be honest our squad isn't good enough

i dont agree with the last part... but yes i wouldnt spend millions either. a few good signings in the right areas, a couple of loans etc though - the playoffs are not out of reach even if they do look unlikely the way weve been playing.

Maybe it's just a case of very few decent players, if any, are interested in coming to Cardiff, either as permanent signings or on loan. That leaves us with zero new faces during this transfer window and the same mediocre squad we already have. Roll on the summer!

the mark harris one confused me really, we had sent him on loan to newport last season i believe, and was doing pretty good from what a few friends said, and then we recalled him to send him to Wrexham in a league lower instead.

What confuses me is why we bought Joe Day ? We had Smithies, Etheridge and Murphy. Honestly, I'd just like to hear the club explain their thinking - even if it just confirms that they are absolutely clueless....

Cardiff City will not let Will Vaulks leave the club this month.

Thursday 23rd January 2020

By Glen Williams

The Wales international has reportedly attracted interest from Bristol City, Stoke City and Sunderland recently, following a lack of game time with the Bluebirds .

However, City value Vaulks too highly to allow him to leave this month, with sources at the club stating that he is vital to the squad moving forward.

The central midfielder recently vented his frustrations on his time under former City boss Neil Warnock, explaining that he expected to have a bigger part to play having moved from Rotherham in the summer.

He even considered leaving the Welsh capital on loan this month in search of more regular game-time, but has since been brought back into the fray under Harris.

The 26-year-old has featured in both FA Cup ties against Carlisle, and will likely play this weekend against Reading in the same competition, and against QPR, Sheffield United and Leeds in the league.

While the player himself will admit that it hasn't quite worked out as he would have liked just yet, there is still a lot more to come from him and the club, it is understood, will afford him the time and opportunity to do just that.

i always though Day was going to be our number 2, with the club expecting the sale of either Etheridge or Smithies. and Murphy as a number 3. but because the both stayed, it didn't make sense, and i felt at that point we should of said, go out on loan
