It's just nine days to go now until the end of the January transfer window, and Cardiff City are still yet to bring in any new players.

The Bluebirds sit 13th in the Championship table and could do with reinforcements to challenge for the latter half of the season.

Manager Neil Harris has already spoken about wanting to add more quality in and around the edge of the box, but efforts to bring anyone new in are yet to materialise.

Fresh reports to emerge this week include Will Vaulks allegedly catching the eye of Bristol City, Stoke City and League One side Sunderland. However, the Sunderland Echo report that manager Phil Parkinson is instead pursuing alternative targets.

Vaulks arrived in South Wales in a £2million deal from Rotherham, but things haven't quite gone to plan, with Leandro Bacuna and Marlon Pack being preferred to him in the middle of the park.

And after Cardiff seemingly cooled interest in Wales and Wigan frontman Kieffer Moore last week after the two clubs failed to agree on a valuation, it's now been reported the Bluebirds are still keen.

They report: "Wigan, Middlesbrough and Birmingham City are showing interest in Stoke City striker Lee Gregory who could be allowed to leave on loan at the end of this month. Wigan may need to sell first with Cardiff City still keen on Kieffer Moore."

I mention yesterday on the forum it was 21 days and counting with 5 games gone and we could have got some loan in who might have helped. it's dissapeared from the forum ? No swear words where used.

I really dislike the January transfer window and wish they would do away with it altogether - but that could potentially be another thread on its own!

Realistically, few Championship clubs have made moves either - its not just us. Swansea have signed a couple of young loanees, but they are in the unique position with Cooper of his knowledge of a group of young players throughout the League who he managed as under 17s 2 years ago. Unless there is a hidden genius, these aren't going to improve your team much.

Experienced Premier League backups cost serious money, and I think we are finally starting to see the effects of FFP regulations stat to kick in. Birmingham already docked points, Sheffield Wednesday and Derby close to it. Bournemouth and Villa likely to be subject to sanctions if they come back down. Team are beginning to see that FFP is real and so are not so profligate with their money.

One or two experienced players might help us get into the top 6 ( or even the top 2 the way West Brom and Leeds are struggling at the moment!), but I don't think its worth gambling the future financial stability of the club over it.

I would hang on to any money and go with what we got and wait to the end of the season when we need to make a serious rebuild of the side. Because unless we make a few stella signings-which we wont- as opposed to a little bit of tinkering -we are destined this season to be a mid table side this season anyway

Cardiff City's chronic problem of signing poor strikers simply cannot be shaken.

Gary Madine left the Welsh capital this month and some would argue the now Blackpool striker has been the worst forward to stroll through the door at Cardiff City Stadium in a generation.

The fact he cost £6m is still very raw for some fans.

It was a little curious, then, that Cardiff looked to be replacing him like for like when we heard of the Bluebirds' £2.3m bid for Wales international Kieffer Moore.

For all his heroics in a Wales shirt in recent months, his efforts at Wigan this season have left a lot to be desired.
The news of Cardiff's interest split the fan base, however you have to think if Moore was not Welsh that shift would have been leaning heavily towards the no camp.
We understand the Bluebirds have dropped their interest in Moore after the two clubs failed to reach an agreement over the valuation of the player, with Wigan holding out for around £4m.

If Cardiff have been burnt once by Madine, they certainly need to learn their lesson with Moore and that appears to be the case. For now, at least.

Lee Gregory is another player who has been mooted as a potential transfer target for Cardiff.

That feels like a safer option. The Stoke City striker consistently notched double figures under Neil Harris at Millwall, both at Championship and League One level, however he has failed to really hit the ground running for the Potters.

It is understood City are yet to make contact with Stoke over Gregory, but a deal has not been categorically ruled out.

He knows Harris well and has proven he can slot seamlessly into his style of football, but is he the type of signing that's going to propel this Cardiff City side into top echelons of the table? Debatable.
The Bluebirds have been searching for that player for years.

The list of the tried, tested and ultimately failed strikers of yesteryear is enough to make any City fan wince: Etien Velikonja, Andreas Cornelius, Alex Revell, Frederic Gounongbe, Oumar Niasse and, of course, Madine.

How many more can come bounding through the door before leaving dishevelled with their tails between their legs a couple of years later?

City fans yearn for the glory years of Jay Bothroyd and Michael Chopra a decade ago. Older fans will think back to the iconic striking duos of John Toshack and Brian Clark or Adrian Alston and Tony Evans in the mid-1970s, if only for one season.
