The Bluebirds man has emerged as a possible transfer target for three EFL clubs

Cardiff City midfielder Will Vaulks is reportedly attracting interest from Severnside rivals Bristol City.

According to the Daily Mail, the former former Rotherham star has also caught the eye of Stoke City and League One side Sunderland.

Vaulks was signed by previous boss Neil Warnock for a fee of around £2m last summer, but has so far struggled to nail down a regular first-team place for the Bluebirds, making just nine Championship appearances this season.

Game-time has admittedly improved since the arrival of new boss Neil Harris, but questions over his long-term future at Cardiff City Stadium remain.

Bristol City were first credited with an interest in the Wales international back in 2016 when the player was still at Falkirk, but were eventually beaten to his signature by the Millers.

Speaking about potential signings, boss Lee Johnson told Bristol Live : "I think we need to get a couple in. I think that you need quality, not quantity and that’s the problem because there isn’t a lot.

LEE JOHNSON:

"You’ve got to either go the extra mile financially to do it, whether that be on a long term or a short term, or you’ve got to stick with what you’ve got and promote from within.

"I just think that there’s not much moving because it’s like a house chain.

"If something happens in that particular club where a player gets injured, what happens is, the chain completely falls down where we want their players, teams want our players and then teams at that club then can’t get rid of their players and it’s a domino effect that moves through football.

"What’s more than likely is a mad rush in the last 48 hours of the window."

Whether or not there will be a late scramble to bring Vaulks on board remains to be seen, but the player himself appears focused on fighting for his place at Cardiff City Stadium.

He said earlier in the month : "For me I have played all my career from 19 until this year, it has been by far the hardest six months I have had as a player, apart from the part where you're trying to make it when you're 18 or 19 but that is different but now it has been really tough.

"It is not what I thought I was signing to do, not that I was given false promises but it has not gone the way I would have liked it to or the fans would have want of wanted it to. But I have got time on my side and I don’t want to give up.

"I have had to do it a load of times throughout my career, fight back from being in tough situations so under the new manager I am ready to fight to get into the team every week.

"That is where I want to be, he knows that, so I will be doing everything that I can in training to make that happen."

Hes not good enough for us in my opinion and I stated that when we spent money on him.

If we get our money back awsome but the likelihood is we will get alot less

I was keen to bring him here but he’s not as good as I hoped, or at least he hasn’t shown that he is. I would sell him.

Shows how bad he must be if he cant even get close to starting in a struggling midfield of Bacuna and Pack

That would be exactly what we need....I see West Ham just loaned a goalie out, doe this open the door for Etheridge?
We could possibly afford Allen if we get 8 million for him, the sort of deal that would really sort us out, but never ever happens.

More likely Lee Gregory unfortunately, but it would probably mean Joe Allen is off to a Premier League club where he belongs

its been said a few times.. which I think makes sense.. I was shocked he went there and think many were
just been included in the UEFA team of the tournament and had a couple of years worth of his Liverpool contract left...
as well, he signed very early in the transfer window not waiting to see what other interest might develop..

Yes he’s going to be on over 50k a week after signing from Liverpool

He's not really been given a chance - i'd keep him for now unless we can get someone better in first

Still think Will Vaulks could be a good player for us

Massive compared to our budget. Absolutely no chance of it happening. Not sure why people kid themselves.

If Sven is to be believed, and I have no reason to doubt him,we tried to get camarasa back, but baulked at his wages of 38k,so I'd say massive at present for us,sadly. :old: :bluebird:

Why ?
He has shown nothing for us or Wales to make anybody think he is capable.
He had a decent season in a poor Rotherham team last season but that is it

Re: Will Vaulks leaving?

Vaulks is a far better player than Pack. He offers more mobility and a goal threat.
He has a decent shot and an excellent long throw, which our team needs due to their limitations in creating quick skillful chances.
He is more solid and reliable than Bacuna.

I would have tried Vaulks in a midfield of 2 with Ralls, as he is far more mobile than Pack and can pass a ball a lot more accurately.
If he was given an opportunity (like Pack and Bacuna) I am sure he would become a better player, offering more than those 2.
