The player who changed the game
By Glenn Williams
There is no doubting that City were far, far better after the break and that was largely down to one man.
Callum Paterson's introduction preceded a far more encouraging second half from the visitors and a real throwback to that old, Warnock-style football.
But there was a real clarity from City after his introduction. Harris told his players at half-time they were going to revert to a more direct style of play and utilise Paterson's strengths and it soon bore fruit.
The Scot has really impressed in recent weeks, seemingly regaining that form which was missing at the start of the season.
He was deployed as a No.9, a position in which he has said he wants to play moving forward, and caused the Birmingham defence havoc.
He was brilliant at the set piece, both in the box and his long throw-ins, and was an out-ball time and time again for the Cardiff defence, which forced the hosts to sit deeper.
"I thought Callum Paterson, second half, changed the game, the dynamic he gives us," Harris said after the match and he is not wrong.
It is understood the Bluebirds are in the market for a striker this month, but if funds are tight, Paterson can fill that void very capably and the hierarchy can focus on far more pressing areas.

Whilst admittedly Patterson played well, for me it was tomlin who changed the game, his drive and passion for the shirt is becoming evident too,he Had a good penalty shout ignored, got booked just after for clapping the ref for awarding a free kick in his favour

then scores the equalising goal, then smacks the outside of the post with a belter

keep it up Lee, you are the shining light in this team

we do need a quality out and out striker, but also more importantly a box to box midfield general, preferably with a bit of steel to his game too

Tomlin for me the team offers next to nothing without him in the side yesterday again proved it

The OP goes to show that Harris has changed the playing style of the team from which a lot of posters have been unable to see.
Of course, whether this attempt of a different style of play is going to be more successful from the Warnock way is still up for debate.

yes he has, but more often than not reverts to going more direct. whatever he is trying looks a mish mash , pos stats up but looks lack luster and clueless. maybe we should go direct for the rest of the season and work on new style in pre season..

I agree, either bring in 1-2 better ball playing players this window and start transitioning now or stick to our strengths and begin the rebuild in the summer when it is easier to do business. This limbo we seem to be stuck in between trying to change our style and having a squad built to play a certain way isn't doing results any good. Personally would like to see the transition start now otherwise this would have been a massive waste of a season but would rather not pay over the odds for players.

I think it looks mish mash too,but to me if he has to return to type (more direct )maybe your right, revert back till end of season, then shake the squad up,with his choice of player in the summer? I don't think we will go down,so maybe keep trying to instill his methods, see who can actually adapt, and add to those who can in the summer? I was one that believed with the right additions pre season,we could challenge top six, that simple didn't happen as we can clearly see now.but I am prepared to give him a least the summer window, and see where it takes us.we as fans must surely see, that Neil Warnock, for all his good work at the club, has rally left us in a very similar position to the one we were in before his arrival, lacking in most areas of the pitch, and playing poor football, which never really changed in all honesty. We are most certainly a club in transition, which playing style wise is what is needed,do we have the players to implement it,I'm not sure we have.so as you say, revert to what they know, and let Harris have a summer window and pre season, then judge as to where we are heading.

It wont be 1st time a manager as tried to change way team plays after taking over but as to revert back to type because players hes got cant adjust, come summer that manager changes the squad to accommodate his style play! In fact some have brought in 7/8 players to achieve this.

I have said this all season the best striker we have in the squad is Patterson scored goals for us in the premiership playing upfront so with Glatzel not doing it we have to go for Patterson up front with tomlin number 10 all we need in my view is a decent midfielder so we can drop Pack
Pack has been the big disappointment to me
Ward is great coming off the bench too but again a good midfielder is the big thing for me sadly harris will drop Bacuna when ralls comes back which will disappoint me as Pack is useless and doesn't pass well tackles to late and gets booked I cannot see what he is any good at and other teams go through us in the middle of the pitch so easy
