Neil Harris' warning on transfers -

Neil Harris insists he will not get ‘bullied’ into paying over the odds for players in the January transfer window.

Any transfer movement?

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=212306 :bluebird:

NEIL HARRIS:

“I will not be bullied in to buying players for the sake of it.”

"No, as we were. A lot of discussions, talking to managers and agents and players with the permission of all parties.
It’s a really positive period for us on the training pitch. Can we support it with a player or two? Possibly. We’ll have to wait and see."

How many are you looking for?

NEIL HARRIS:

"It depends if anyone else goes out. I wouldn’t really want to lose anyone without replacing them if I’m honest. We’re at a good number now. Someone like Cameron Coxe needs to get out and play if he can."

"It is a good size, so for anyone to go I’d want to replace them."

Re: Any transfer movement? NEIL HARRIS:

Fri Jan 17, 2020 12:14 pm

NEIL HARRIS:

Fans look at other clubs, halfway through the window now, should they be concerned?

"I think concerned is the wrong word. The reality is that clubs who have signed players, and there’s not a lot of clubs that have signed players, you look at the stability within their club since the start of the season, from pre-season, working with the players, having stability off the field, i.e. the recruitment department, things like that, enables you to be in a very good position each transfer window.I"

"It’s a bit different for us, with me not being here that long and with a new recruitment department being set up, it doesn’t make it as easy to do business."

"So we are in that period at the moment.
But we have identified players and I have certainly identified players who can add quality to the group.
If we can get them then brilliant."

"I am really happy with the group but I’m not saying we’re not going to add to it. That’s not the case, we are trying, but again, as ever, it has to be the right personnel."

NEIL HARRIS:

Working hard then?

"I don’t think that changes for managers. We are working every hour we can to find the right deals for us. They have to be the right deals, we’re not going to overpay or do deals we don’t want to do because you end up signing players for the wrong value.
"Every transfer window has been last-day scramble, but you have a game…"

"Ideally, you know you want to let three players on and let three players leave and get it done on January 1. But it doesn’t happen like that. Because there is a deadline everyone feels like they can go to deadline. You end up having 40 deals on deadline day and 200 others that don’t happen."

"I prefer to be set and organised and work with the players as long as we can. If it means we have to go to deadline day then so be it but moving forward I don’t want that to happen."

Re: Any transfer movement? NEIL HARRIS:

NEIL HARRIS:

Do you enjoy the January window?

"It’s part of the job, that’s for sure. Once you get the players over the line, that’s the enjoyment, like winning a game of football. It’s not always enjoyable dealing with intermediaries in the middle. That can be tough.
It’s part of the game, I understand that and there’s some really good agents out there as well.
We’ve been close to things and then it just fades and disappears. That’s the hard side of it and it’s still frustrating and doesn’t get any easier."

"Always expect the unexpected in January."

Re: Any transfer movement? NEIL HARRIS:

Summer likely to be the moment you put more of a stamp on this team?

NEIL HARRIS:

"I think that’s safe to assume. Overhaul? I’m not sure about that. In terms of us being more structured, more set and have a greater understanding of what the group will do. It gives us more time to be ready. Now we are looking and you don’t want short terms and quick fixes. You want players you can develop and look to the future."

"Loans in January are usually the ones that tend to happen because of the inflated market in January."

Re: Any transfer movement? NEIL HARRIS:

Fri Jan 17, 2020 12:25 pm

NEIL HARRIS:

Would you like a director of football?

"That’s a case of the board understanding how I work and me understanding how the board work. Every club is different. The recruitment department left when I came in and that leaves a hole. New chief scouts in and scouts underneath."

"Director of football, head of recruitment sometimes, someone who sits between the manager and the board and chief scouts, that is something for the club to consider over a period of time."

"That’s a club decision. All I’m interested in is whatever works for us to work as smoothly as possible.
If it’s something the club considers in the future then I’d support it."

Neil Harris: "Really happy with his squad"

New contracts for players out of contract this season? Ward, Peltier etc.

NEIL HARRIS:

"In the background, yes. Players I think highly of, Danny and Lee. Lee has played nearly every game for me since I’ve been here and been outstanding."

"I can’t speak highly enough of him as a pro. And Danny, a striker in and out the team, impact off the bench, a goal the other night, lots to consider."

"Lots to consider for the player as well. Family situation, where they live, what they want to do, are they happy? So talks ongoing with personnel."

"But I’m really happy with the squad at the moment."

mixed messages.. all the time..
all that talk about clearing the decks...squad { sorry the group } being to big. amounted to 2 blokes who were always going after seeing out short term emergency contracts no matter if NW, NH, PEP or Mickey Mouse was in charge , a young lad who has not played going out on loan  and Madine who we have apparently tried to replace leaving..

what I don't like is the endless contradictions..
I didn't expect much in the way of transfers or any meaningful clear out or a drastic change in style .
that's not to say id be against any of those, but I would like what Harris says this week to add up with what he said last week and last month..

Isn't that a trait of all managers? Give fans what they want to hear but in reality always something different behind the scenes? NW did it expertly Jose master at it so why are fans surprised 2 & 2 makes 5 in what football managers say? Keeping fans happy and trying to sort out a team that's underperforming and have lots dead wood is not easy especially so soon into his time here.

He’s definitely Russel Slade 2.0 I don’t know how people haven’t spotted it yet.

He waffles on in interviews like Slade did because the truth is they don’t really know what’s going to happen. He’s got no plans or anything he’s just there to clear the ship and keep it afloat until the board figure out what there real plan is to take us forward.

Neil Harris is cheap and cheerful just like his interviews.

Like I've said all managers do it at times what else can they do? Says happy with squad can only say that to appease fans and the players! but we all know the squad is badly in need of better defence and midfield ..

not to this extent.. the squad go from being very intense in training and a good group..to being not fit enough and some have to leave due to attitude to back to a good squad { oops I mean group } .. no money unless we sell goes to clear outs and too big a squad..to being a good squad he is happy with and the right size because 2 players who were always going to leave did leave and a young boy who was not involved has gone out on loan..oh and madine but weve tried to replace him..
I don't want him sacked. think results are ok... just would like a little bit of continuity re what he says..

Continuity is very difficult at moment when he's got to manage another man's signings? He cannot be happy with squad as we are seriously missing couple of players midfield and defence that have not been addressed previously as we are fully aware of as fans.. but agree fans do want openness when it comes to what is said but getting balance right is nigh impossible for football manager whoever he is! I think he's doing ok considering what's been left for him to deal with after all other managers have gone into clubs better placed and better players but have failed., quite happy to wait until after summer window to see who he as signed? This window is no time to judge him.. :old:

oh stop with this other mans signings or do you want a list of ten thousand managers that have also managed players not brought in by them ...do you think Warnock took us to safety with NW players ?
it 10 rungs down the ladder from absolute nonsense.
blaming Warnock for Harris talking shit is a new one though ..fair play..

Either way, contradictions or not, it was always going to be impossible to reform a squad in January, we will see a proper representation of his intentions in the summer, away from inflated prices and unnecessarily long contracts

Re: Any transfer movement? NEIL HARRIS:

Fri Jan 17, 2020 2:42 pm

Why sign anybody for the sake of it you say he's another slade but remember slade brought in six players in the January transfer window and I don't think any of them stayed very long maybe go for loans but unless you are talking about big money most clubs are only getting rid of the players they don't want like we are doing

Re: Any transfer movement? NEIL HARRIS:

Fri Jan 17, 2020 2:51 pm

Same folk need something to gripe about Allen, bet they'll still be moaning when we get debt free!!

Nothing like Slade scenario, Harris needs this window to start unloading what he can before the summer cull..

You are probably right however come next month or the start of March & the club will be pushing new season tickets. Unless there are one or two new faces to ignite some interest in fans many will fall by the wayside and not come at all next season or hold fire until the summers transfer activity to see if it’s worth attending games. They will not renew their ST straight away.

It’s fair to say that we are not the best team to watch at the moment and we are a long way off a side capable of winning the Play Offs so what is going to keep the fans attending the CCS? Do fans want to see progress? I would suggest yes. The new manager’s style etc will take time but fans want to see some football from a decent team with a couple of new faces.

Yeah to be fair you're right, I think the days of unconditional support have gone for the majority . Which is sad, but it's a results based business. It would be welcome to see a few new faces. But on past experiences of transfer windows, I'm happy to have this as a throw away season and see in the summer. Loads of teams struggle first season down after the prem. I'd get the new scouting network properly established, invest in our academy projects, go with what we have and see what happens. Although I am just limiting my own expectations, it would be nice to get a few short term loans

Re: Any transfer movement? NEIL HARRIS:

Fri Jan 17, 2020 6:03 pm

Our recruitment has been terrible for the last 4 transfer windows

Being the only team in the championship without a loan player is just ridiculous and sums up how bad we are in the transfer market at the moment

How long does it take to bring new people in?? We haven’t had a recruitment dept or academy manager for the last 3 months. Our chairman and CEO are hardly ever about and neither of them even live in Wales and Our owner hasn’t visited the club for nearly a year!!

No wonder nothing gets done!!
