Harry McKirdy

Number 11 for Carlisle.
Looks a good young player.

Scored twice against us and in league 2 this season he has 5 goals and 4 assists in 22 games.
Great finish for his second goal too!
Worth a punt?

We spoke about this on the way home. He'd be worth a punt, I believe he's out of contract at end of season so shouldn't command a great fee.

Looks a decent player. Worth a punt

I was thinking that myself.

Then I remembered the same thing happened when Solomon Taiwo played against us in the Carling Cup and he was bloody useless

McKirdy certainly has a shot in him

That’s the trouble mate.
Also, it would feed the ‘the club has no ambition’ brigade a treat.

I suppose if we signed every player who looked good against our defence, we would have a squad of around five hundred or so. Many players can raise their game a level when playing against higher class opposition. Doing it consistently at a higher level is not so easy. Many fans raved about Eoin Doyle based on his record in the lower leagues. Championship was a step too far. He may make the step up, but I wouldn't be rating him on the back of 90 minutes against our defenders.

Seeing Taiwo mentioned on here I thought I'd try to remember a few other players we signed on the basis that they played well in a game against us and apparently for no other reason.

Alan Lee
Gavin Gordon
Richard Langley

Any others come to mind?

John Parkin was signed to stop him scoring past us

Not forgetting.... A certain Gary Madine, who scored against us home and away and remember saying to the missus, " watch this space, we'll buy him"

Oh for hindsight :D

He reminds me a lot in his appearance of Jason Bowen. Slightly foppish hairstyle, similar size/build and running style.

He had a loan spell at Newport.

Looked very good in the first match at ccfc.

Thought he was an outstanding wee player but a bit on the slight side, although he managed to handle himself against our big defence. Reminded me a little of the Bernard guy who plays for Everton … nippy (obviously not the same level). With better training and a little more bulk he could be even more outstanding. Deserved MoM imo stand-out player for Carlisle.
