When was the last time our fans were left thinking the club had made us stronger following a full transfer windows activity?
We are repeatedly let down while those around us strengthen and make ambitious smart signings.

Who's made ambitious smart signings ? Take a look hardly any clubs have brought in players except couple of loans , upto wkend only 5 championship clubs had brought anyone in and only one paid a fee.

Sneggy very true but its this ambitious bit that bugs me just because couple of clubs have got in on loan reserve players thats called ambition ? We all know the play city are after at moment but got give NH time to sort out the chiff from chaff hopefully summer will change things.

i think the last time i enjoyed a January transfer window was deadline day a good few years ago. "breaking news coming out of Sunderland, Chopra is set to return on loan to Cardiff, and then sign permanently in the summer for a fee of around £3m"
i remember being so excited with that. since then i think I've enjoyed deadline day as a neutral seeing if any big names make any jumps

Recruitment policy has been dire for years. We’ve fallen into the same trap as every other club, move 7 or 8 out bring 7 or 8 in. Madness! Remember the days of 1, 2 or 3 coming in and out. Got us excited, Gerry Francis, Bryan Flynn, Jimmy Floyd, Fowler, Robin Friday, Chopra, Phil Stant, Carl Dale and this meant local lads were always given the chance (had to) to play and produced so so many players like Earnie, Ramsey, Gunter, Adam Mathews, Chris Pike. I really never understood how you can get a squad of players together at the start of a season and then say 9 or 10 can go 6 months later. 1 or 2 yes, either poor form or retirement. If they were good enough in Aug they should be good enough by January. Let’s break the mould. Get the 24 or 25 squad at the start of season. When we have injuries NO feckin loan deals, bring in the academy player. Keep them all together for following season during the summer bring 1 or 2 from outside when we have to, but make them really quality like REAL quality which gets us excited. And before anyone says that it wouldn’t get us where we are today, we used to do it in the 70’s and 80’ and we were in the same position mid table (Div 2 back then = Championship now) pay people over the odds to stay here, try local boys who have roots around here so they don’t get homesick, just my view!

You make some excellent observations. But surely the fundamental problem is changing managers too often? First thing you hear when a new manager comes in is "this is not his squad and will need 2 transfer windows to put his mark on the squad"
That leads to mass outgoings and incoming's as you describe. We need to redefine what we expect from managers. They should be more like head coaches who can work with what they have got more effectively. A bit like NW did in our promotion season by getting more out of the some of the part by using motivation, tactics and improving individual players ability and confidence.
That doesn't mean no transfers but they should be limited to problem positions or replacing players who have moved on due to retirement or transfer. The ball park should be 3 transfers in the summer and 1 at most in January.

Totally agree with you Tony. That’s why I said recruitment policy so it dosnt matter who the manager is. The style of play our team plays or should play should be dictated to the manager by the club, and recruitment of managers by the club should take Our style of play into account. There’s no point employing a manager that dosnt fit. This must be linked to all the coaches from academy and youth to 1st team. God knows how it’s works now. Cos the academy and youth coaches don’t get changed when a new manager comes in. The 1st team coaches go with the manager but the academy and youth set up continue with the coaches that are there. So worse case scenario we could have all our teams under the 1st team playing like Barcelona and the 1st team playing long ball Wimbledon style. Identify a style of play, the Kardiff way whatever it is, our fans like high pressing, passionate football, incorporate it. let’s be honest we don’t expect too much. If we to be a long ball team so be it, let the Under 7’s play that style now so their ready when their 18. Same if we decide if one touch is ours. Sorry to go on but we seem to react to what’s happening in one season, and not where we will be in 20 years. If our ambition is champions league winners then identify a style now so we can get there. Football styles ain’t going to change much over the next 20 years cos there’s only so much you can do with 11 players and a football
