About Carlisle United

Carlisle United Football Club is a professional association football club based in Carlisle, Cumbria, England. The team compete in League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. They have played their home games at Brunton Park since 1909. The club's traditional kit is blue with white and red detail, whilst the badge takes elements from the city's coat of arms by including two wyverns. They are nicknamed the "Blues", due to their kit, as well as the "Cumbrians".

Formed in 1904, the club entered the Lancashire Combination the following year and were crowned Division Two champions in 1906–07. They entered the North Eastern League in 1910 and went on to win the league title in 1921–22, before being elected into the Football League in 1928. They spent the next 30 years in the Third Division North, at which point they were assigned a place in the newly formed Fourth Division, from where they won promotion in 1961–62. Relegated the following season, they then won two consecutive promotions, finishing the 1964–65 season as champions of the Third Division under the stewardship of Alan Ashman. They secured promotion out of the Second Division in 1973–74, but stayed only one season in the First Division and were relegated back to the Third Division at the end of the 1976–77 campaign. Promoted again under Bob Stokoe in 1981–82, they suffered successive relegations to return to the fourth tier by 1987.

Carlisle won promotion as champions of the fourth tier in 1994–95, but were relegated the next season, before winning promotion again in 1996–97, only to be relegated again the following year. Their 76-year stay in the Football League came to an end with relegation in 2003–04, though player-manager Paul Simpson secured an immediate return after leading United to victory the 2005 Conference National play-off Final. They then won the League Two title in 2005–06, and remained in League One until their relegation at the end of the 2013–14 season. The club has reached the final of the Football League Trophy six times, more than any other team, winning it in 1997 and 2011, and finishing as runners-up in 1995, 2003, 2006 and 2010.

SEAN MORRISON:

Carlisle Away

“Personally, it’s huge. I’ve not had a cup run since I’ve been here. We’ve not been past the fourth round and it’s nice to get a cup run. You get the chance to play against bigger teams and if you turn up in that 90 minutes you can get through to the next round. It’s going to be a difficult game. It’s going to be cold and they’ll want to cause an upset. They’ll be right at it.“

We should beat Carlisle in theory but we are talking about Cardiff City hear
I’m not being funny but who put a draw and why is a draw an option?? :?
This game has to have a winner so a draw doesn’t come in to it  :banghead:

It's a 90 minute result. If it's a draw then Extra Time and penalties come into it.

What an idiot you sound like.

I know some may disagree but for me it’s paramount Mozza and Nelson start together in this. We need to form a proper CB pairing and they looked good together in their first time out against Swans.

Carlisle 1-2 Cardiff City. I'm assuming we'll be playing our fringe players so I don't think we'll be great but I think we'll get the job done. Ward and Murphy to score :bluebird:

Don't expect there will be much in it. Think we may sneak it by one goal but not going to be easy. The sort of game we could easily lose if we perform as poorly as we have in some of our games recently.

West Ham have not yet officially tabled a bid for NEIL ETHERIDGE / SO CARDIFF HAVE NOT TURNED ANY BID DOWN.

It’s Etheridge’s agent & City who have been touting him out and yes West Ham are looking and considering a bid , but so far have not offered anything.

Plus as usual media speculation.

Neil Harris has been told like Russell Slade reduce the wages and bring money in which he has already been doing and some of the money will be made available.

Cardiff in October received £100mill from Prem & £60mill from Sky’s first payment, more to come over the next few years.

Cardiff also receive £110,000 for every home live game on tv & about £20,000 for every away live game on tv.

I honestly believe if West Ham offered £5mill in a straight deal City would take it.

Neil Etheridge will not be involved in Cardiff City's FA Cup third-round replay with Carlisle on Wednesday night as speculation regarding a move to West Ham continues.

Neil Harris | We want to get through to Round Four

Joe Ralls is back in squad and travelling.

Tuesday 14th January 2020

Neil Harris set his sights on a positive run in the Emirates FA Cup as he previewed Wednesday evening’s Third Round replay at Carlisle United.

The Bluebirds came back from two behind to draw with the Cumbrians at CCS, and the City boss underlined the importance of coming out on top at Brunton Park.

NEIL HARRIS:

“I will be fielding a strong team and I want to progress, as the FA Cup means a lot to me.”

“First and foremost, it’s the FA Cup and we want to get through to the next round,” he began. “We want to win the game; we want individuals to play well and the team to perform.

“To get through, we’ve got to do it the hard way, going to Carlisle on a Wednesday evening. We’re all fully aware that the attraction of a League Two team playing a Championship one is that it’s a potential banana skin.

“The lads will have to be well prepared mentally and physically as it’s an important game to us. The team I select will do that, with the leadership and quality I’ll have in the group.”

Neil went on to provide an insight into his team selection for Wednesday evening, including a positive update on the fitness of Joe Ralls.

“It will be a senior group of lads again,” he continued. “We’ll have to balance the team. I want to get through and I’ll pick a team accordingly.”

“There are no fresh injuries as we speak. It’s a good test for players to go to Carlisle on a Wednesday night. I’ve been honest with the players – if you step up and perform then your chance will come in the main group.

“Joe [Ralls] will be back with the group and a decision will be made over whether he plays. Being Joe, he was desperate to play on Sunday, but he wasn’t quite ready.”

Harris finished by emphasising how keen he is to put in a performance for the travelling City faithful at Brunton Park.

“Last week, I was very clear on how good the week was in training,” he said. “You saw that on Sunday, although we missed the final moment, of course. We need that little kick-start in the coming four days, with Carlisle and Birmingham, to really get us going again.

“When the fans travel a long, long way to go there, it’s important that we play as well as we can.”

First of all I’m far from an idiot and your comment of saying I sound like an idiot is so disrespectful, you are exactly what you are judging on what I’m about to say. Not very professional saying I sound like an idiot with the position of moderator that you are
The question is and I quote
“What will the result be of Carlisle United v Cardiff City?”
It says nothing about being over 90 minutes, it says RESULT so that tells me what it says, RESULT, in which case it can NOT be a draw but I’ll accept your apology because I’m nice like that   :laughing5:
