Is the S.Wales derby dead?

Sun Jan 12, 2020 3:35 pm

Two out of two games the atmosphere has been tame. We were crap at creating and atmosphere and I only really heard Swansea before kick off and after the game ended ( probably cos they had no choice but to stay behind).

Maybe it's because it's now in the second tier and tasting the premier League has taken the shine off it all?

Or is it just me?

I couldn’t care a toss If we never played them again.

Modern football for you mate. The powers that be want football to be watered down. Can't see me putting up with football, the way it is for much longer.

Atmosphere in the first game was fantastic.

Cardiff haven’t scored against Swansea in 6 years so probably feels worse for you guys.

In the post hooligan era (Vetch and Ninian Park) it is just another game, but the Sky hype it as if it WW3.

If you really think the first game was a great atmosphere - it must of been your first derby.

Where we score in the derby is of little consequence. We have scored 4 in the last 3 games and conceded 0.

I have been to many, it was fantastic. “The Liberty is rocking” was the phrase used a lot by the pundits and neutrals.

I get what you say but loads more people are watching modern football the design of modern stadiums ( stands too far from the pitch) destroys any atmosphere.there were some desperately poor crowds for this fixture in the past but some great atmospheres

I loved the late 90's early 2000's in A Block Grandstand, best times of my life as a Cardiff fan but those times are gone. If you expect that nowadays you're living in cloud cuckoo land. Either accept it or stop attending, the good ol'days are sadly gone forever

If they were good days why were the crowds so abysmal compared to now?.

Because they were good days for reasons that didn't encourage families to attend

Guy near me was told to stop swearing in the Ninian by a steward. Absolute joke! No wonder stadiums in this country are so quiet, with over zealous stewarding. Can understand in the Family section, but not other parts of the ground.

Re: Is the S.Wales derby dead?

Decent atmosphere for a 0-0 Sunday modern day support, compare it to the other games in the country because comparing it to the olden days is apples and oranges. The edge has gone simple as that.

It had the potential to go up a few notches with some more goal mouth action and a goal but is was as good as you are going to get in the modern game.

Your wrong football attendances all over the country before the inception of the premier League and the building of modern stadium were low they've grown year on year ever since.

Re: Is the S.Wales derby dead?

That’s true.. but the Terraces generated a much better atmosphere.. throw in a bit of agg, and it could be electric. Also, the crowds were right on the pitch. Always thought if they terraced the Grange and Canton, it would save this ground from the sterile place it is now.

Police have ruined the derby.

Changing it too a sunday kills it. If it were a saturday any time it would be proper
