NEIL ETHERIDGE TALKS UP LOCAL DERBY

Neil Etheridge says the players will be more prepared

Neil Etheridge believes Cardiff City’s players will be more prepared for what is coming their way in the South Wales derby this weekend.

The Bluebirds were beaten 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium back in October courtesy of a Ben Wilmot goal in the first half.

But Etheridge thinks the magnitude of the derby was a big factor last time and this time they will know what’s coming.

"It was upsetting (the loss), the derby is a massive deal and we have to put things right.

It hurts to lose any game but to lose a derby is a massive downer.

Sometimes people assume that players don’t care, but we do.

It’s a massive thing for any player to play in a derby, especially one of that size.

We did feel the weight on our shoulders. For the next couple of days, the boys in the dressing room weren’t the same.

That was the first time a lot of the players have been in a derby that size - the Welsh derby.

We will know what to expect even more at our place."

It’s a massive game for the supporters. People would rather win that game than get promoted!

For some reason this game is being elevated by media because of their win last time? Dont recall such emphasis on fact they could do 1st double in the fixture after all it's not first time either side could do double is it?

Yes it is. There's never been a double in the history of the fixture.

Hopefully Smithies will play. Etheridge is a liability. Doesn’t command the area and his kicking is dire.

No, but I think Allan is saying that(and correct me if I'm wrong Allan) the press are overplaying the double more than ever before. There have been plenty times in the past where either side has been going into the game with the prospect of doing the double but the press have never laid it on as thick as they are this time.

Pembroke Allan said (quote) after all it's not first time either side could do double is it?" and he's right! ;)

His is miles better than Smithies in every aspect of goalkeeping bar kicking.

And rest of his distribution aswell sadly is worse smithies got a torrent of grief for one or 2 of the goals what went in at WBA but yet Etheridge you cannot say a bad word against

I wondered that too I'd be playing smithies all day out of 2 much more commanding of a keeper but yet a bad word is rarely said against Etheridge but WBA away smithies got slaughtered

Just a bit one sided but as someone as said sports desk is full of glory hunting swans fans! Maybe that's why it's being bigged up so they can boast 1st to do double? :old:

Maybe doesnt appear to be as much interest but the envises is on them doing double first time team as done it, rather than on game itself.. as I said not 1st time team capable of doing double is it? . :old:

he didn't get slaughtered after WBA , it was more a case of people pointing things out after our first choice keeper returned and was being knocked.. as for Smithies and command in the same sentence.. no idea what you mean by that but its certainly not coming quickly off your line and actually being set..

He did take bit of a bashing after West Brom. Shouldn’t be conceding outside the area, got to be dropped after conceding 4 etc. Etheridge came back in concedes from being caught in no mans lands and also conceded from a shot from about 35yards. Been beaten from distance a few times, caught out of position, gave away a needless pen against Leeds and conceded 6 against qpr. Didn’t Swansea score after his scuffed clearance and the resulting corner he gave away after a diving header that was going wide anyway? He might be a better shot stopper than Smithies but that’s about it.

The players owe us a performance. We were lucky it was only 1-0 in the previous game, they were all over us and we were just shit. Same against the Wurzels, they owe us big time.

Smithies did get slaughtered on here and social media outlets after the wba game but nothing ever got mentioned about Etheridge

Etheridge was a major factor in defeat at Swansea.
