‘ CARDIFF CITY PLAYER RETURNS ‘

Greg Cunningham returns

Greg Cunningham’s season-long loan at Blackburn Rovers has officially been cut short this month.

The player sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury back in October and is likely to be out for the remainder of the season.

It is likely Neil Harris would have recalled Cunningham this month, given he is targeting left back as a position in which he would like to strengthen, but these are not the circumstances in which he would have liked to have done it.

The player has been up at Blackburn undergoing some of his rehabilitation, but he has now returned to the Bluebirds to continue his recovery.

The Lancashire Telegraph, however, claim the club have not ruled out signing the left back on a permanent basis.

I think that’s a business situation, I would suggest. We all like Greg, he’s good around the building, all the players really bought in to his personality and character.

But he’s not our footballer, he’s their footballer for the next 18 months.

He’ll be going back to get his rehabilitation done back at his parent club and I think that will be done soon.

We had a send-back option as well, it works both ways generally.

I think it’s a business decision, when the terminology of contract is there and they can recall, and you can send back, we either sit here and pay X amount of money on a salary of a player that can’t play for us, or we send him back to his parent club.

That excess money can then be spent on a new signing coming in, the money that would have been spent on Greg sitting in a treatment room for the next six months.

The contract states that he can be sent back in this window.

I’m guessing we have insurance to cover his wages in these circumstances.

Why would we have insurance? I’m assuming it is simply written into the loan contract that a serious injury could mean the loan is ended prematurely

Some sort of insurance is statutory in footbal even at local league level .... so his wages will/should be covered just like it is for international players injured for their country.

What it means is he reverts back to our player and we pay his wages in full ... presumably this is standard practice in football unless of course a club is clever enough to put clause in to make loanee club keep player regardless of him being able to play for them.. :? Insurance is of course another matter only club would know what's covered regarding loaning player out and getting injured .

I was talking about insurance and the quote about having to pay him while injured..

I know just saying only club knows if covered by insurance regarding being injured on loan... but like most things it is what it is and part of football. :laughing5:

From the statement it sounds like we had the option to recall in Jan and they had the option to send him back, regardless of if he was injured or not. So I would assume they have covered his wages up until now but as they had the option to cancel the loan in this transfer window, they have done so. So wages back on us.

its a few 100 grand... does it really matter who's paying it ?
It'll be someone loaded regardless to the situation, f**k um.

f*cking weird place this sometimes.

Moaning about injured players wages and should it be insured is a new one.

I thought he came back when it happened as the prognosis was that he was out for the rest of the season.... weird decision to bring him back now though seeing his injury is long term and NH is targeting the LB position :?

The explanation on the return of Cunningham is quite simple...

Player is injured, both Cardiff and Blackburn had the option of cancelling the contract in January and that is what happened. For Cardiff, it allows them to monitor the progress of their asset and for Blackburn it allows them to free up money to pay the fees/wages of another player in a position (maybe the same) that they need

They may even take Cunningham (on loan or by sale) back at a later date but that has to be agreed by both clubs at that point

As for insurance, the club will 100% have medical cover as a basic, so the cost of Cunningham's medical care, along with the input from the club's own medical staffs will be well covered

Nothing (quote) "weird" about that to most; but then again, it is you that posted the above! ;) :laughing6:

Did say insurance of some sort is mandatory in football even at local level and in citys case it would cover the things you said Chris.. people getting in a twist for nothing.. :old:
