Cardiff City evening transfer update as £6m flop departs as Bluebirds told to sign half a dozen players
By Glen Williams

The Bluebirds are looking to add some fresh faces to their squad this month and have already been linked with a couple of players

Gary Madine's goalless two-year stint at Cardiff City has come to an end.

The Bluebirds have confirmed that the striker has left the club by mutual consent, bringing to an end a difficult two-year spell.

Madine was signed from Bolton Wanderers for £6m by Neil Warnock back in January 2016, but departs having failed to find the net for the Bluebirds.

Despite enjoying a resurgence under Neil Harris this term, Madine has largely failed to seize his first team opportunity, and has now been moved on.

"Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that Gary Madine has left the Bluebirds by mutual consent," the club said in a short statement.

"We'd like to thank Gary for his efforts since joining the Club in January 2018 and wish him well with his future career."

Meanwhile, have been linked with a move for Shrewsbury Town midfielder Josh Laurent.

The player has impressed in League One, having registered 11 assists so far this season, and is thought to be attracting interest from other Championship clubs such as Stoke City and Reading.

While many supporters will have wanted the Bluebirds to be targeting Premier League or Championship players, Laurent is certainly a player in form and would not cost a great deal of money.

Other players who have been plucked from League One in recent years have certainly endeared themselves to fans, such as Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and most recently Curtis Nelson and Gavin Whyte.

Laurent, a central midfielder, has the creative side to his game which Neil Harris desperately needs moving forward and a player of his ilk certainly fits the bill of what's required this month.

If they do manage to capture his signature, though, they will have to face off stiff competition .

Elsewhere, Real Betis have been made aware of Cardiff City's interest in Victor Camarasa.

The former Bluebirds midfielder is thought to be seeking a move away from Crystal Palace this month, having played only five minutes of Premier League football this season.

Norwich City and Celta Vigo have also registered an interest in signing the player, however it is understood the player would favour moving to a club he knows can guarantee him game time.

We spoke to Spanish football expert Colin Millar and he believes a move back to the Cardiff City Stadium this month is certainly on the cards.

"It’s definitely a possibility," Millar told WalesOnline, "although there are many variables at play and wages remain a stumbling block.

"But he was loved at Cardiff and he genuinely loved the club back - he almost certainly would have signed permanently had they stayed up.

"He provided some big moments - it’s no mean feat for a Bluebirds player to score against Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all in the one season, along with netting the winner at Leicester.

"He may not quite be a cult hero, but there is an emotional attachment that may be factored in."

Whether Camarasa's wage demands prove too costly for City, however, remains to be seen.

Our columnist Nathan Blake, meanwhile, believes Cardiff City need to completely overhaul the spine of their team this month .

He wants as many as six signings this month: A goalkeeper, two centre-backs, a central midfield player, a winger and a striker.

That might look like a tough ask, but Blake believes City need to be making the big calls now if they are to reap the rewards in the future.

"We all know this isn't going to happen overnight, but it's about the intent and what you are trying to build towards," Blake said.

"I've said before that it will take two or three years to turn this squad into a modern side that can compete in the upper echelons of this division and become sustainable in the Premier League.

"The previous manager didn't like me saying that, but it was true. And people are beginning to see what I meant by it as the current side struggle in mid-table at best.

"It might take even longer, but that should be the aim and it all has to start somewhere.

"So, why not this month?"

As stated on another thread, I can sadly but confidently say Victor Camarasa will not be coming back to the CCS in this transfer window

Not to upset if true, has hardly played in 8 months, I liked him , but would rather us spend what little we have on others and not let victors wage take up our budget, a cut price loan though unlikely would be very welcome!

WOL scrape the barrel these days. The stuff they used to report usually had some weight behind it but I just ignore most of it these days. They're no better than an internet transfer rumour site.

It’s shaping up to be a non productive window.

I despair at the lack of progression in the club.

Other clubs are passing us by.

City need to catch up with the real world.

Passing us by? As far as I can see theres been 11 players sighned by championship clubs 9 on loan and 2 fees that's between 7 clubs? Lots teams being passed by judging by these stats? As accurate as I could work out

It didn't come from WOL but (as said previously) you believe what you want :thumbright:

Having said that, I also believe WOL have more accurate info than the voices in your negative head! ;) :laughing6:
