Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that Gary Madine has left the Bluebirds by mutual consent.
We'd like to thank Gary for his efforts since joining the Club in January 2018 and wish him well with his future career.
Gary Madine's goalless two-year stint at Cardiff City has come to an end.
The Bluebirds have confirmed that the striker has left the club by mutual consent, bringing to an end a difficult two-year spell.
A deal was agreed by both parties.
Madine was signed from Bolton Wanderers for £6m by Neil Warnock back in January 2016, but departs having failed to find the net for the Bluebirds.
Despite enjoying a resurgence under Neil Harris this term, Madine has largely failed to seize his first team opportunity, and has now been moved on.
"Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that Gary Madine has left the Bluebirds by mutual consent," the club said in a short statement.
"We'd like to thank Gary for his efforts since joining the Club in January 2018 and wish him well with his future career."
Meanwhile, have been linked with a move for Shrewsbury Town midfielder Josh Lau

It says he was released by mutual consent so probably no big payoff.

Club really haven’t a clue, cost 6 million and leaves for nothing,no wonder there is no money available for transfers, how many players is that now that have walked away for nothing

Strange goings on at the club. Harris seemed to like Madine and talk him up, he starts playing quite well after months in the wilderness then he disappears From the squad again and now paid to leave.

A really bad signing compounded by the promotion gamble and bonus payment.
Played well for the first few games under NH and gave us something that no other player could give us ie holding up the ball.
Was never going to get another contract after zero goals.
Probably one signing which still makes NW wake up in a sweat at night.

I don't understand why we always seem to let players go by Mutual Consent. Surely we could've got something for him? Even if it's only £500k it's better than just letting him go on a free? I know it frees up wages but come on? We did the same years ago with Kim Bo and Eikrem. Someone would've made an offer for them Kim Bo was class

It appears he may well be one of the players called out for not being proffesional.

Don’t be a doughnut now we’ve made that back and more after promotion.

Well if they could they would of.
Kim Bo was a one season wonder. Done nothing since he left us.

Surely that's bout 8mill down the drain on fee and wages
Fans will now complain tan isn't spending any money on new players
So much of his money has been wasted!!!!
Thu Jan 09, 2020 4:55 pm
God we have squandered some money over the years.
Thu Jan 09, 2020 4:55 pm
What an absolutely astonishing waste of money!
Transfer fee, wages and now probably a pay off as well for a return of virtually nothing whatsoever!

That’s ok then, promotion payments cover it lol,we may as well let everyone leave for nothing because we got promotion, and you call me a doughnut lol

It was always going to end up as a payoff as no one would take him/nor would he agree to leave given his lucrative Cardiff contract. Instead Cardiff will have paid a large percentage of his prospective earnings for the time remaining on his deal and leave him to find a club at a much lower salary. Basically Gary is laughing his arse off

Moan moan moan, moan when he's here about how much he cost, then the same moan when he goes
This is positive news, we've moved on a player that didn't fit and potentially can utilise some wages for a player that Harris wants!
Don't forget he helped get us promoted and his fee would have been more than covered from the Sky money in the Premier League!
Good luck Madine, all the best wherever you go

He probably couldn’t believe his fortune when he was signed for us. Another one made a millionaire, this one has to be the cherry on the cake,Absolutely stolen a living. When will we ever get a proper manager that other clubs would want?

Well no the club aren’t letting everybody leave for nothing are they.
They’ve released one player.

I'm sure Gary Madine won't be (quote)
"laughing his arse off", as I'm pretty sure he wanted to play football but I guess people (particularly negative ones like you) will take that view
From the start, Madine hasn't truly been given a chance at the club and even after he 'did a job' for Sheffield United last season, he wasn't used on at City despite our other strikers firing more blanks than a Eunuch on heat
The fee and/or wages paid weren't of his making and I am not aware that he made any fuss in his time here; certainly not in the media, which is where most go to bleat about how unfairly they are being treated
But I do agree that it was always going to end up as a 'mutual agreement' due the wages City themselves paid him
Good luck to the guy, I say; and I hope he fixes himself up with a club soon enough

No one would match his salary here I expect but if the club says you can find another club then the severance would be more in the clubs favour so he can find first team football somewhere.I would think he's desperate to find regular first team football somewhere.
So Glatzel and Ward it is then.

very strange mate..

Just to lighten the mood Abramovich paid something like £25m to pay off last management team!

But on madine we do seem to waste lot money on such players but there again so do other clubs ... funny profession footballs player getting paid to leave a club !
Thu Jan 09, 2020 5:28 pm
Probably a little more successful and dynamic than this management team maybe?
Thu Jan 09, 2020 5:29 pm
Thinking a bit more on this it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see him fixed up very quickly and I'll bet he's the answer to some other clubs problem.
