Neil Harris so far.....

Thu Jan 09, 2020 10:50 am

The build up to the Derby has got me thinking about how I felt going into the last one under sir Neil and how I feel now. I felt warnock had to go as it seemed to have gone stale and a change was needed. As fans I’m sure we all had our first choices and for me that was Chris hughton but it soon became clear we either weren’t interested in him or he wasn’t interested in us. Then I thought about Tony pulis or David Moyes and then Nigel Pearson. I didn’t want Neil Harris but then we got him and after hearing his press conference I got a bit excited, he seemed passionate and knowledgable and had built a hard, tough well drilled milwall side and I thought if we get back to that alongside some of our quality (tomlin, Hoilett, Mendez and Murphy) we might go on a run and surprise a few again. Now as we approach the Derby again I am just a bit confused as to how we are trying to play and what we are trying to do, we are neither direct and tough in the tackle or a good passing team, we seem to be trying to do both and doing neither. Harris needs more time but for me I need to start seeing some sort of plan soon whatever that plan is as I have no idea how we’re going to play before a game, he seemed to like playing direct to Madine (which is his strength) but then Madine is no where to be seen. Then he starts ward against Brentford and lumps it up to him which is not his game. So review on Harris so far.... some good results but no idea what he’s trying to do. Any thoughts....?

Don't think he has a clue to be honest also showing no passion before the Derby which does not feel right. The Jack's right up for it and just signed a really fine youngster from Liverpool who have we signed?

Yes Harris needs more time, but I agree that he has at times been confusing and contradicting with his comments and actions. I am not hopeful for his future with us and where that will leave our club, but trying to remain positive. Surely he can get a better performance and vibe out of the players for the SW derby than the last manager. Like many of us, I have seen all this before. But I keep saying it, I will say it agin, its a difficult job right now, because he has inherited a mostly average, underachieving, slow and bloated squad, with minimal funds to put it right due to the previous managers really poor recruitment and money management. I guess thats why Harris has tried varying methods and tactics with Ward and Madine, I am not sure what he's trying to do either, collectively, maybe thats down to our players not being good enough for what he wants them to do?

He talks a good game but I am yet to see much change on the pitch. He has been at the club for over two months now so we should be playing how he wants us to play really. I am willing to give him time as I feel the majority of managers at this level would struggle with this squad. Saying that, Millwall were 18th when he left them and they are now 7th which isn't very reassuring.

I can’t see him being around for very long.

We are in a transitional phase and unfortunately will not go anywhere under the present manager. He is here to oversea a clearance of the decks with the hope of a surprise turn up in the playoffs but we are miles away from being consistent enough for that

keep reading this , but don't see the board paying up his plus his coaching staffs contracts to appoint another Harris type manager { one prepared to work with a small budget } who the majority of fans wont be happy with either..

I fail to see anything Swansea are doing right now to show they are more up for this game than we are, care to elaborate??

Theyve signed a 19year old for 4 months on loan who may not even get a goal in that time given how hard some "fine" players find the championship and needing time to adapt.

With regards to the style, he does the same thing with Glatzel and that’s hitting long or aimless balls to him in the air.
You can see there is a bit more passing in this team and the GK is playing out from the back a little more as well but generally I’m not impressed at all.

The other thing that eludes me is the general passion and work ethic under Harris as I think that’s poor. The way we start games is abysmal and lacks almost any effort or will to win.

Yes, he needs time to change things and in answer to LLan Blue, he will be given that time.

Exactly. He's just been given a 2 and a half year deal. Its clear that funds are tight so it's unrealistic the club will sack him and have to pay up his plus his teams contracts after two losses. He is going to be here until this time next year, at least, and will probably only be replaced at any point if we are flirting with relegation.

I don’t mean he’s going to be sacked in the next few months.

But the end of next season he will probably be gone.

An they fucked off trollope and his staff no problems so if shit does hit the fan then they won’t have a problem getting rid.

Where were we in the league when they sacked Trollope?

Not trying to hammer
Harris
But he is the new slade
We're not shopping in Harrods (and never have been!!)

Far to the same as warnock
We have a half decent team
If we play to the players strengths
But he will not see it.

Groundhog day

Billionaires and millionaires
But paupers at football
When will they learn????

8 points from 11 games though.. this isn't quite the same thing..
and tbh mate I don't much see the point...the next appointment is going to be another underwhelming Trollope. harris type appointment who the fans will be critical of from day 1..
we haven't gone for it for a few years so don't really see us appointing a manager who would expect decent backing for a promotion push.... just got lucky with NW getting a squad with little quality to buy into a pretty unusual style
