Their Warnocks Players

Wed Jan 01, 2020 6:21 pm

First and foremost, Neil Harris was my last choice of the alleged managerial candidates named, in fact he was the only name that I had zero tolerance for. I have not changed my mind. However as soon as he was appointed and I got over myself, I gave him my full support, if not my confidence, and despite today, I still do.

This is Neil Warnocks bloated, overpaid, slow squad. Regularly conceding over 65% possession, being caught ball watching and not being used to playing in a settled line up. Harris has inherited this, and to my pleasant suprise until today, I feel he has got a little more out of the players than Warnock did. Today, though was unacceptable and he is rightly accountable. I still hold little confidence in him but still support him, would he have had a squad like this if he had 3 years in the job? Big signings not playing regularly not performing, slow defenders and midfield, no creativity or goal scorers, fitness concerns. Smithies on 30k a week, I could go on....

Today was a shocker, embarrassing, but to put things into perspective, if Warnock wasn’t good enough to manage his own players and lose his post as a result, it’s a long shot to expect Harris to!! I wanted Warnock gone , I never wanted Harris, I hold little hope for him, but he has my support.

Klopp wouldn’t do much better with this squad, Warnocks squad. Yet , despite the reality of the lack of funding in the transfer window , strangely we are in touch of the playoffs!!!!!!!

Spot on mate but some of our deluded fans think it's as easy as changing a formation on FIFA on the PS4.

Well we will have to see but Harris himself has said that there will be no money available this window so already he's got his hands tied behind his back.

Harris will have known all this before joining and must have believed that he could do more with the squad than Warnock could. We keep hearing about a change in style but frankly there has been little evidence of it. Harris as a manager has no record at all of playing anything other than the style we currently play - indeed only Millwall under Harris had less possession per game in the Championship than Warnock's Cardiff.

So we are expecting a manager who plays a certain way to change to a style he's not familiar with using players who are not familiar with that style and with no money to change the squad? Quite a task ahead for him!

I also agree. The board must back him, they are not that football blind to realise it was a minor miracle we got automatic in the 017/18 season. We bought young English players and loaned a few, so the game plan was there.

This season we sold one of the English lads & Bruno, lost the loans and Gunnar left. We bought Flint (£4mill), Pack (£?? ) Glatzel (£5.5mill) with Whyte and Nelson looking better for less money.

None of those are Kenwyn Jones sort of contracts, we bought them in the championship. It should be solvable much quicker than post Ole.

By backing him i mean settling a few contracts or letting them go for free with a sweetner. Harris needs to see if the kids are any good and get his own in in the summer.

What is the highest points total to be relegated in the championship ?

According to football experts we have a good squad so how is Warnock to blame

And we would have not lost like today if Warnock was there he was embarrassed by losing to reading 3-0

Harris and the players should ashamed of todays result

If Warnock was still there we would have lost 6 nil to leeds, wouldn't have drawn with Charlton and lost to Sheffield Wednesday. It's his squad who he walked out on knowing they weren't good enough.

Agree about letting players go and maybe backing Harris in the loan market

Totally agree.warnock knew this squad was not good enough, hence why he left... team needs to be re built , Harris has to be given time .

Major surgery needed thats for sure, thing is whoever took over from Warnock would have quickly found out(as Harris has) that really, its only the 'warnockball' type style and formation that gives us a chance of getting results. You simply can't play fluid, expressive, adventurous and ambitious football with this squad. However you look at it, particularly up top, the whole squad is galvanised and tailored for Warnocks way. Even Kevin Keegan would have had to play tight managing this lot. Harris knew what he was getting into. He's Russell Slade mark 2. Can play Warnocks style, Reduce the wage bill, thin out the squad, give youth a chance, we have seen this model before, after OGS

I agree with the sentiment here.

Our performances, results and stats for the season with Warnock weren't good enough and it was with a manager managing his own recruits. Results since, except today, have been better with clean sheets featuring more regularly, on which victories and promotions are built.

The squad is unbalanced if not bloated and that's been commented on here countless times.

Whatever January has in store, Harris has to be given a chance.

Reality is any recruitment cannot possibly be any worse than the last three windows.
