When Swansea won the FA Cup...

In response to their thread,

Please post your memories when Swansea won it....OH wait......THEY NEVER HAVE!!!

Seriously though, can we now dismiss the winners of the cup prior to say 1950 and tell all the clubs who have their win don't count anymore?

Never going to happen.

Still,..... Obviously well jell of our win.... :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5:

I don't think its jealousy. If you want the brutally honest answer - there is a collective feeling of amusement that Cardiff supporters tend to use a win that nobody under the age of 100 was alive to vividly remember in order to compare the modern day situations of certain clubs. I think reasonable living memory is always a good starting point as that has a direct impact on club affairs, whether that is profile or bums on seats.

Some things matter to some, we like to remember our FA Cup win.
Some others would like us not to have won it....lol
It matters to us as a club. Nothing to do with living memory Even the big clubs count the number of times they have won it
Just like we won the first world war......it matters to some that the memory lives on.

Expecting a big waffle from you now, but you won't understand as your club has never won it...fact.

Well then we will have to disagree on that then. I don't think I have heard anyone say they were jealous, they just laugh at the scenario I just described.

That song is racist, yes - I have never sung it and don't think I have heard it be sung for maybe 15 years. Not sure what that has to do with the FA Cup in the 1920's though?

Would you say you were jealous of our League Cup win then?

Well you cant remember it can you, that's the point.

Be proud of it, absolutely. What I said was when you compare modern day situations and use things from 100 years ago is amusing. I'm not saying pretend it didn't happen, i'm not saying don't be proud of it - I am saying when you bring it up to show how 'big' the club is in the modern day is amusing to many. Which is probably where the thread originated from.

Yes I am fully aware we have never won the FA Cup. We have never won the Top Division either but to say I am jealous of Huddersfield Town would be one heck of a stretch.

it has nothing to do with the fa cup other than a time factor...its sang about an ex chairman for Christ sake... and the we chased a few youths into the sea..how old is that ? and please don't say its not been sang for 15 years...its your anthem / greatest achievement.. and no im not jealous of the league cup { i wouldn't mind winning it but not jealous } or chasing children ..

An ex chairman that the majority of the Swansea fans that are singing it remember. I don't understand the correlation you are drawing. Same goes for the 'swim away' although not entirely sure your description of 'children' is accurate, but it isn't something that I am too hung up over :laughing6:

Are you saying that Sam Hammam song is our anthem? Truly? Genuinely not heard it since the Vetch days, no idea who you have been talking to.

So if you aren't jealous of the League Cup win that everyone saw, then why do we have to be jealous about the FA Cup win that none of us saw or experienced? Its weird logic.

i was in Wolves so i didn't see it.. i doubt id have watched it if someone else was playing Barnsley either and i was not travelling home.. anyway some were actually children some youths...but enough..im sure someone else will take the baton but im off..

But then you are essentially saying it DOES matter if you didn't see it? Otherwise if you aren't jealous of our Cup win because you were ''in Wolves'' surely by the same stroke we can't be jealous either considering we weren't even alive to see it - or the aftermath?

Although the point is you were alive to experience it, even if you didn't watch the match itself and witnessed the aftermath of us being in Europe being able to sign payers like Michu and Bony off the back of it.

'Some' may well have been youths, yes. Same for most mass hooligan based scenarios. Again not sure what it has to do with the FA Cup in the 20's.

What do you mean pick up the baton? Are you saying this isn't actually your opinion and just saying it out of some form of 'duty' you all feel you have? I couldn't give a monkeys about duty, if I have an opinion whether it be good or bad about my club then I say it - you should try it.

I have to give it to them, Swansea have had a good few years but in reality I feel that they were the glory days for them. I can’t see them returning to the top flight any time soon and I can see them going back down to the lower leagues before that happens. Just my feeling.

You are probably spot on with most of that.

Neither of us are going to be giants of British football. The pinnacle either can aim for is competing in the PL with the exceptional years pushing mid table. So if we have achieved the pinnacle with a major trophy and a European knockout stage progression to add to that then I have no doubt they will be regarded as the clubs ''glory years'' until it maybe happens again. I hope it is in my lifetime but the odds are stacked against clubs like us, it doesn't happen to most clubs our stature ever so to have achieved it was special to witness.

Disagree with more chance of going down the leagues though.

yep its a form of duty...keep you occupied here so you can talk about how unjealous you are about us winning the FA cup and how funny your mates think it all is to a point they have a thread about it.. thing is people all over Wales know who won the FA cup in 1927 , people not even interested in football .. must kill you.. seriously it must kill you , and you have no one else north , south , east or west within a 100 miles to be rivals with.. cant you do like a palace ,where nobody in London thought much of them so bit of thinking outside the box and figured Brighton...maybe you could be Torquays rivals..
and they haven't won the cup so nothing to be jealous of..apart from it being a nice place.

If you are doing it out of duty as opposed to a belief then it's pretty meaningless. Your latest post just seems like ranting, trying to convince yourself we are all dying inside because you won a cup when none of us were alive.

If it helps you then go for it, all I can do is tell you the situation. If you wish to create a fantasy scenario in your head for whatever purpose, then that is your choice to do so I suppose.

We don't care what you think.
Winning the FA Cup on St Georges day, and the only time it has been won outside of England, is a big part of our clubs history and is our heritage. We will keep that win alive as long as the club keeps going.

Hi mate, I have lived in Swansea for more than 25 years and know many Jacks. They all know what happened in 1927. That alone warms the cockles of my heart. The thread on the jack site is helping them remember that date...

Knowing about it doesn’t mean you dislike, or are jealous of it though. I would imagine they all know the titanic and the world war too and know the date.

The bloke you are replying too even remembers where he was when Swansea won the league cup yet claims he isn’t jealous.

Not sure of your logic.

Winning the Cup is legendary.. that's why the Swansea boys like to talk about it. They even like to sport similar moustaches as a nod to that period. Here we have Roque Mesa sporting a nifty little '27'..

Well one person has put a thread on there. They were clearly mocking the fact you guys bring it up constantly even though it was 100 years ago hence why there are pictures of the referee in a dicky bow :laughing6: .

It’s a funny way to judge tens of thousands of people on what one person does or says, but I guess it keeps you pretending that we care :D

In your mind, yes. My replies are just in response to what you are writing, nothing more. The responses on the thread in question are poking fun for the reasons I stated.

The fact you're on here trying to dumb down our club history is enough for us to laugh at you. Let's be honest Roathie, we all laugh at your squirming attempts to ridicule almost every thread on here.
Like some childish barrack-room lawyer, on here because it somehow boosts your childlike ego.

It is a Cardiff site mate, and almost everyone on here disagrees with you.
Keep it going....Off out now, new years celebrations to go to.
Oh yes, at midnight I will toast Cardiff winning the FA Cup in 1927. The ONLY Welsh club ever to do it. No Welsh club has a record like our in the worlds most well known domestic cup. (even without our win)

Where have I dumbed anything down? I have stated some facts surrounding when it was and the reason many poke fun at it. That’s about it. I can only assume it’s your insecurities regarding the win and it’s almost century old date that is leading you to be so defensive over things that aren’t there.

People can disagree with me all they like, but they are always shown to be incorrect to do so, which is why you are getting so annoyed.

many poke fun at it...you mean a few sad people that needed their weekly hate/don't like Cardiff fix..
generally football fans take great interest in the history of not just their club but the game itself .. stands are named after long gone stars.. and clubs erect statues.. must be extremely difficult going to places like notts county and Barnsley and knowing your part in this story is even smaller than theirs... even the statue outside the liberty is of someone who spent his best years elsewhere even becoming a derby game hat trick hero.. FOR US against you
so how about going on planet swamp and starting a ....who remembers Ivors derby hat trick thread...

To all the swans fans that have inhabited this forum over the years our clubs history only started when they 1st went to premier league some 10yrs ago! Because they cannot match our successes before then... why else do they poke fun of fact we won fa cup been in 2 other fa finals compared to their one semi final whenever that was! Even more famous clubs cannot boast fa cup win so its something to be proud of regardless when it was.....

No, I meant what I said. I have never heard one single person say “oh didn’t they do well to win a trophy all that time ago”. Because to anyone other than Cardiff it is largely irrelevant. So when you use it to compare clubs in the modern day, we find it funny, as I assume do others.

I don’t think anybody has ever used a players statue that nobody alive can realistically remember to compare clubs in the modern day though? Which is the point. Remember what we are talking about because you keep talking about other things. This point has just about the same relevance as your Sam Hammam one...

No idea what you are going on about regarding Ivor Allchurch and it’s relation to comparing a 1927 win to modern day either. Or the fact he had his best days elsewhere for that matter. Do you realise he scored 164 of his 249 career goals... for us? :D all of which many people still going today remember fondly in the first person.

Happy to have a sensible discussion but you seem to have contracted the silly bug from General Chat... which is never a good thing :laughing6:
