Time to ditch the wingers

I feel that playing with two out and out wingers just doesn’t work for us anymore, with the possible exception of Hoilett the others are so inconsistent we are lucky for one good game in 5 from them. By ditching them it would allow a midfield of Ralls, Bacuna or Pack with Tomlinson and Patterson in the wide berths. Alowing two up front with Ward and possible Glatzel. With Jazz and Bennet attacking/overlapping.

I have to agree. Give up with the two wingers. Mendez and Murphy are often anonymous. Whyte will give 100% but lacks providing the final ball.(although that may come with experience) Hoilett is class and always a threat, so I would use him as a wide midfielder. Also, I'd find a roll for Patterson as he has proved he can score goals. However, he didn't seem fit and appeared overweight at the start of the season, which needs addressing first. Finally, I'd prefer to use a striker partnership instead of the isolated centre forward used in recent years.

I think playing three wingers as a front three all changing throughout the game could work aswell. Got to be better than our striker options

City have 4 wingers yet only Hoilett can produce a decent cross plus he is the only winger who actually does his defensive duties.

Mendez, Murphy are out of form whilst Whyte works hard with little quality ball.

Must admit, I’ve been thinking the same. Maybe we could employ some of them in a different role. I’d happily use JH as a central option behind the striker as he has an abundance of ability, but has lost a yard of pace.

Would much prefer a 352 or 442 diamond. wingers are killing us going forward with final ball to striker usually poor.

Would be my choice for today as we r still missing ralls to go in the middle for the diamond and I'd put mozza in for flint when fit
