COULD THIS BE THE STARTING XI Vs SHEFF WEDS?

TWO CHANGES, 24-YEAR-OLD IN: THE EXPECTED CARDIFF XI HARRIS IS LIKELY TO PLAY THIS WEEKEND
By Dean Cooke

Cardiff take on Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, looking to improve their chances of finishing in the top six come the end of the season.

The Bluebirds will travel to Hillsborough in confident mood having seen an improvement in their performances since Neil Harris took over as manager.

It is still a work in progress, but they’ll be hoping for what could be a massive victory in their season when they travel to a side who were defeated by Stoke on Boxing Day.

Cardiff are currently playing in a 4-2-3-1 formation, hoping to earn an important away victory this weekend. The goalkeeper should stay the same, but there will be an enforced change in the back four as Lee Peltier went off injured on Boxing Day.

Jazz Richards is set to replace him at right-back and is a good option to cover the player, whilst the two centre-halves will keep their places. Aden Flint was the man who got the goal for the Bluebirds and will have given him even more confidence after a set of improved performances in the last month.

In midfield Marlon Pack and Leandro Bacuna are constantly hounding the opposition and could be very effective in stopping Barry Bannan from controlling the game on Sunday.

The three behind the striker need more creativity, and Junior Hoilett has to contribute more when called upon. Lee Tomlin will play just behind the forward and will hope to use his great set of skills to unlock the door at Hillsborough.

Up top, Danny Ward should replace Robert Glatzel in the forward line and will be hoping to add to his goal tally with the attacking striker option still a big problem for the Bluebirds this season.

Sounds plausible; but for me, I'd keep Glatzel up front and tell him he's the main man in an effort to give him some much needed confidence

I’m sure he’d have got confidence from a last minute equaliser away at Leeds but seems no amount of confidence will turn him into a useful striker at this level

It's not confidence he needs its ability.
Ward deserves a chance I would pick him aswell

ward apart from the two goals he scored he has done no more than glatzel when he as played so not sure the clamour for him to play? It's not the performance of strikers thats the problem we all know its the support any of them get thats the trouble with things... without a couple of holding midfielders we are always going to struggle to get hoillett Murphy ect to support the strikers.

Ward has scored more than 2 goals get your facts right?

Re: COULD THIS BE THE STARTING XI Vs SHEFF WEDS?

Danny Ward is not a striker to start the game, but more of an impact player I feel.

Start Glatzel always I'd say

Re: COULD THIS BE THE STARTING XI Vs SHEFF WEDS?

Danny Ward can score... best goals per minutes ratio Glatzel is almost 3 times more than Wards. Ward is more a threat than Glatzel in the air and in behind.

Maybe they'll bring in Madine to score against his former club. He has o score soon doesn't he...? Maybe..... One day?

If we have to play either Glatzel, Ward or Madine please can we stop the goalie kicking long to them. All we do is give the ball back to the opposition.

That's how I feel on Ward; clearly capable of a goal or two but may be best in the role of 'Super Sub' when his legs are fresher than the opposition defence

Glatzel, for me, has the constituent parts to be a good striker but we have to play to his strengths; and they don't start with high aimless balls from defence

You always say this player should play or that player shouldn't but never give a reason.

What are Glatzels strengths ?

As far as I can see he has a poor chance to goal ratio.
He does not hold the ball up particularly well
His heading is very poor
His link up play is non existent
He doesnt get into goalscoring positions often
He is quite quick but never uses his pace to get in behind

As far as I can see in his 15 or so games he has scored a penalty , a tap in and a scuffed shot which luckily went under the keeper whilst missing chance after chance in important games.
Other than that he has done nothing to warrant a starting place and hard to believe but Madine even though he has not scored offers a lot more as does Ward

I agree, it’s Glatzel for me all day long as the best striker at the club.
Your last paragraph sums it up Chris.

Move pack and bacuna alongside our back 4 and you will find our true formation 6-3-1 that's why we arent creating anything

I feel Ward cant last the game with his past injury record and like you I feel he is an impact player at best

More hypothetical journo shite.

Don't see much hounding going on from Pack and no idea why Ward "should" replace Glatzel. Source?

Why do these journo pieces get posted here? Do they add anything?

people do post on the threads..
I take issue with the word journalist though.. they are clearly written to a pattern by people with no interest in our or any club

You've got to laugh... the words 'Pack' and 'hounding' shouldn't go together in the same sentence. He's so far off the pace of games that he's lucky if he gets within 2 yards of the opposition.

I don't see the attributes, and I have tried..ive asked others that either come back with things like its the wrong football for him or like me cant fathom what people can see... there are a number of things he is poor at but cant see any he is actually good at. ?
and 15 games is a decent amount of time...some players never get that many chances

Ward will never be more than an impact sub.

Glatzel by far our best striker in terms of quality. All will struggle under our lack of plan or tactics if Harris has any.

Ward defo does work coming off the bench..id love to know what the glatzel remark is based on. gets said very very often but its said as a definitive without any explanation..

Glatzel has yet to show even a couple of moments of quality. Feels like we all want to happen but know it won’t... a la Le Fondre

He is not good in the air... not got a great touch... not strong enough and not quick.

It's about time our keeper rolled the ball to our full backs especially with Jaz now playing to allow our wingers to supply our forwards with decent crosses instead of lumping it up field most of the time. If it means dropping Etheridge so be it.

I understand what you are trying to say about building the attack from the back but to me it’s more down to the widenen ability !
I can’t call them wingers as they rarely take their man on and get to the byeline enough (NML in particular) and even when they do rarely are composed enough to look up and try to pick out a City player in the box .They tend to cut inside looking to try and get a shot away .

Smithies has to come in Etheridge has been poor to say the least and Smitihes once he got into a run of games did nothing wrong and did not deserved to be dropped.

I can’t see why the management team can not see Etheridge distribution is shocking and if we are trying to change the way we play it star yes from the keeper.
