TEAM NEWS :bluebird:

Cardiff City will be left sweating over the fitness of Lee Peltier today as they face Garry Monk's in-form Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The Bluebirds right back sustained a knock to his knee in the 1-1 draw with Millwall on Boxing Day and, despite trying to play on, hobbled off the field just minutes later.

He was replaced by Jazz Richards, who turned out his second encouraging display in as many outings, and it looks likely the Welshman will have to fill the berth at Hillsborough this afternoon.

"He's got a bang on his knee so it doesn't look great at the moment," Harris said of Peltier after the Millwall clash.

"Is he going to turn around quickly enough for the weekend? We will have to see and take it day by day.

"We are hoping it's an impact rather than a sprain."

Fortunately for Harris, Joe Bennett had recovered from his Achilles problem to start against Millwall, meaning Richards was able to step in for Peltier when he was hooked.

Peltier has been an ever-present under Harris and has shown tremendous heart and courage when the Bluebirds have been forced into last-ditch defending. However, if he is missing, today represents yet another opportunity for Richards to stake his claim for a regular starting spot.

Elsewhere, it is as yet unknown whether Josh Murphy will be recalled into the match-day squad, having been jettisoned for the Millwall clash after he was jeered off against Preston North End last weekend.

Harris has said he is fully fit and is available for selection if required, however it appears Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Junior Hoilett and Gavin Whyte are currently ahead of him in the pecking order.

Joe Ralls will miss the clash owing to his broken hand, while Isaac Vassell and Matthew Connolly are once again the long-term absentees.

Captain Sean Morrison will also be missing as he serves the final match of his three-game suspension.

About Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday Football Club is a professional association football club based in Sheffield, England. The team competes in the Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Formed in 1867 as an offshoot of The Wednesday Cricket Club (itself formed in 1820), they went by the name of the Wednesday Football Club until changing to their current name in 1929.

Wednesday is one of the oldest football clubs in the world of any code, and the third-oldest professional association football club in England. In 1868 its team won the Cromwell Cup, only the second tournament of its kind. They were founding members and inaugural champions of the Football Alliance in 1889, before joining The Football League three years later. In 1992, they became founder members of the Premier League. The team has spent most of its league history in English football's top flight, but they have not played at that level since being relegated in 2000.

The Owls, as they are nicknamed, have won four league titles, three FA Cups, one League Cup and one FA Community Shield. Wednesday have also competed in UEFA cup competitions on four occasions, reaching the quarter-finals of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1963. In 1991, they defeated Manchester United 1-0 in the Football League Cup Final as a tier 2 team. As of 2019 they remain the last team outside the top flight to win one of English football's major trophies.

In the 19th century, they played their matches at several stadiums around central Sheffield, including Olive Grove and Bramall Lane. Since 1899, the club has played all its home matches at Hillsborough stadium, a near-40,000 capacity stadium in the north-west Sheffield suburb of Owlerton.

Previous Meeting

The match at Cardiff City Stadium in October finished 1-1. Lee Tomlin got a late equaliser for the Bluebirds.

If the current Cardiff turn up we lose comfortably

If we actually turn up and play some football we can win it.

I dont hold out much hope for this one as I think Wednesdays pace will rip us apart

Only one result here. Comfortable home win.

It’ll be the same at QPR. That Eze will run rings around us again, even though bizarrely we won 3-0

We will take about 600 fans I suspect.

As for the result 3-1 to them. Could be surprised but seen nothing in the last 4 or 5 games suggests we can get anything from this and Harris has proved to lack in the motivation department. Now that our season is going nowhere I’m thinking long term and want Harris out.

I've messaged the boys and told them to take the day off, as Danny Says they are beaten before they have kicked a ball

Had a message back to remind you they had 'no chance' against the Forest of Nottingham but came away with all 3 points

I don't doubt the battling qualities of this City team (one loss in 8 games suggests they are up for it) and it only takes one player to have that moment of magic to put a smile on the faces of the (usually fantastic) City away support

Cup half-full or half-empty? That is the question! ;) :D

You can motivate players, but that doesn't improve their skill set,a poor player is a poor player, motivated or not  these are well paid individuals who shouldn't need motivating ffs! You cannot make a silk purse from a sow's ear. :old: :bluebird:
