HARRIS NOT HAPPY WITH JEERING/MURPHY IS A VERY GOOD PLAYER

Cardiff City boss Neil Harris has his say on Josh Murphy jeers

Tuesday 24th December 2019

There was a loud jeer when the Bluebirds winger was substituted for Danny Ward against Preston last weekend and the manager has given his thoughts

Cardiff City manager Neil Harris admitted his displeasure at hearing Josh Murphy jeered off the field against Preston, but believes the onus is on the player to show exactly what he is capable of.

Murphy was hooked on the hour last Saturday and replaced by Danny Ward, only for some Cardiff supporters to cheer the winger's exit.

It caused quite the controversy among the Bluebirds' fan base , with some having lost patience with Murphy and others believing players should be backed unconditionally through a poor run of form.

While Harris believes Murphy, still just 24, has an abundance of potential waiting to be unlocked, he understood the fans venting their frustration.

NEIL HARRIS:

"It’s never nice for an individual player or for us as a group," Harris said of the reaction to Murphy's substitution on the weekend.

"You want everyone to be happy and loved and that feeling that everyone is there together.

"But I also understand it from a fans’ perspective what they want to see from their players.

"Murphy is a really good player, as we know. He’s come with a huge price tag and I’ve not seen the best of him in my five weeks in charge.

"Before that, I can’t really speak but I’ll take it from the reaction that the fans haven’t seen the best of him either.

"It’s down to me to get the best out of him and nurture that talent."

Murphy showed glimpses of his real quality during the Premier League campaign, but while many were expecting him to tear up the Championship this term, he simply hasn't hit those heights.

Harris believes that the style of play he is trying to implement at Cardiff City Stadium will benefit the winger.

However, despite Murphy's obvious talent, Harris insists no one has a divine right to walk into his side.

"He’s a player that’s best with the ball on the floor, at his feet," he added. "So maybe he’s not had the best opportunities to show his qualities and we are trying to change that.

"But also, as a player, you have to earn the right to be in the manager’s team.

"I gave Murphy an opportunity at the weekend and it wasn’t the strongest team performance for him to shine."

I think everyone agrees that Murphy is a very good player ..... or, at least, can be.

The problem is he just very rarely shows it and looks and plays like he couldn’t give a shit.
Whether Harris can get the best out of him or try’s to move him on will be interesting.

Some others players have not been performing, but with Murphy it looks like he can't be arsed and doesn't give a shit, thats what most likely led to the jeers

Whilst I can excuse his inept performances with the ball as being form related, what I can’t forgive is his lacklustre approach when we’re not in possession. If he was performing well and preserving energy for big moments, I’d be more understanding. Having said that, I will never boo or sarcastically cheer a Cardiff City player being substituted.

Completely and utterly different scenario.

There's no sentiment in football especially as we make these young men millionaires across their short career. He's been a big flop for the money we paid and I'd like to see him leave in January. Him and Zohore just didn't cut it in the premier league and in my view don't have their right mental attributes to ever do.

Murphy in my opinion needs to move on and get a fresh start

His pace I'd great but has serious issues controlling the ball at the pace he runs.

Is it a confidence issue or technical ability?

Ok but I still can’t see anything like a comparison.

Whitt’s had a languid style but never hid and always looked for the ball. His same style showed when he scored as he never over celebrated or went crazy whilst Murphy ducks out of tackles, has the body language that shows he’s not trying ..... and actually, he’s not trying.

Not you, but people who think Whitt’s was lazy or played like he didn’t give a shit are blind.

I would like to see him stay but his form needs to drastically improve

We cant afford to take another huge loss on a player like that and I cant see anybody giving us anywhere near what we paid. He will be on big wages as he joined us in the premier league and let's be fair who will we get who is better as we dont seem to have much to spend.

He is going through a rough patch for some reason but he is undoubtedly the best winger at the club

Maybe the booing and cheering will hit a nerve and wake him up

I loved Whitts.. but didn't always , it took him quite a while to cement a place here { he was either being hooked or on the bench } and I think quite a while for most to see past the layed back looking approach... ive seen Murphy slip inch perfect passes having ghosted past players and still be slaughtered because he doesn't like a tackle { whitts didn't like them either } anyway..he has quality and its something that's in short supply so he has my patience if not anyone elses..

Me too.. give him time. Under Warnock he kept receiving the ball at head height.. used to drive me mad. He’s probably acclimatising to receiving a pass from a teammate.

If he’s been playing football since a kid he should have that sorted by now. I don’t see Mendez Lang as any better either, he’s got pace but f**k me 9/10 times he will go up wing and pass it back to opposition.

Wingers (kads)

Tue Dec 24, 2019 11:20 pm

Junior always puts a shift in Mendez superb when we singed him had a dip but is having a go again and looking positive Gavin whyte i believe will be a excellent buy i know we are poor moving the ball quickly from midfield and full back areas but Bartley the bluebird did more running and showed more passion then Murphy did on Saturday against a centre half playing right back who got booked first half i did not cheer when he went off but was glad he did all that money and we got rid of kadem Harris for coppers?

It’s not just that Mike. Preston knew Murphy’s threat and snuffed him out with the shut down. Harris knows this, but we don’t have the mobility in midfield to assist the wingers. What it is at the moment.

The other issue is that our teams in recent years have no rhythm, rather individuals relying on their skills to win battles. This is down to the Manager, and for some reason our owners employ bosses who compete but don’t excel. Exclude Harris in that as he’s new.

Saying that, we’re doing ok.

I Think Fans Are Frustrated With The Match Overall Because The Players Was Not Giving It There All Throughout The Match.
I Personally Think We Saw The Best Out Of Him Against The Man Utd Game And Its A Shame Because He Has So Much Potential That He Has Yet To Get The Maximum Out Of.

I Think He Should Stay In January With Us.

Will be interesting to see if Harris can get Murphy to actually give a f**k :banghead:

I'm not bothered by his style, languid or other. Plenty look casual but deliver and not everyone needs to be a Craig Bellamy. What concerns me is his lack of delivery of goals and assists. He has scored once this season and that's not enough given we play with a work horse striker and expect others to chip in. His defensive side let's him down but can be accepted if he is doing the business at the other end of the pitch. But he's not. He should not be discarded not least because he cost us £10 million but he does need man management to get him out of his rut.

Difference is whitts even looked like he didnt give a shit when he was banging in 20 goals a season. Murphy is useless. We need to get rid asap.

If Murphy was contributing then there be no problem, but he aint doing much. Hardly makes runs, hardly tracks back. hes kinda just there
