NEIL HARRIS: " JAZZ IS A GREAT PLAYER & MUCH MORE TO COME FROM HIM "

Jazz Richards had not started a Cardiff game for nearly two years and has missed over 70 matches through different injuries.

Sunday 22nd December 2019

NEIL HARRIS:

"I'm really pleased for him," Harris said. "We all know that there’s a lot more to come from Jazz - getting forward has always been his strong point, being creative and even scoring goals.

"Ideally, we wouldn't have thrown him in today, but with Bennett going down yesterday (Friday) and two late fitness tests late in the afternoon and on the morning of the game, so we were a bit patched up. And it probably showed in the performance.

"But Jazz, I thought he was outstanding."

"Jazz header in the 90th minute at the back post in front of Dave Nugent was quality full-back play."

"As good as someone like Lee Tomlin might be at the other end of the pitch, that's as important defensively."

"There is so much more to come from Jazz."

It is very encouraging for Bluebirds and Wales fans that Richards is back fit again.

While he wasn't at his marauding best in attack, that was understandable, given he has to prove himself to the new manager and would have been cautious over making too many mistakes.

But that will come with time and Bennett, who is likely to be out with an Achilles injury for at least one more game , might benefit from some time on the sidelines to recharge the batteries.

In the meantime, Richards finally has the chance to grab this opportunity by the scruff of the neck and make that left-back berth his own.

The man inside him at centre back, Nelson, certainly believes he has a lot to offer.

"It’s brilliant to have him back," Nelson said of Richards.

"Jazz has had a few setbacks with injuries, and I think he deserves so much credit to have played 90 minutes today, because I know how tough that is, coming in and having to do that.

"He's a great player. It's different not having Joe Bennett next to me, who is naturally left footed, but he did really well today and I'm so happy for him.

"Jazz is a great player. He's played a lot of games at a really good level and I know he's going to bring something and affect the team in a positive way when he plays."

The puzzle is not yet solved at the back for Harris, but Richards is likely to be given a fair chance to see if he is the correct fit.

My View:

No thank you, cost City a lot of money, had a few good performances, some ok ones, some fair, but most of the time gets injured so easily.

Is he looking for a new contract?

He certainly massively let himself down in his first ever game by refusing to do the :ayatollah: It’ll take a lot for me to forgive him for that

Played more games for us than Tomlin, despite being injured. Both are obviously now looking for new contacts but I’d certainly only give them another year each and only if they are automatic choices for the rest of this season!

yes he has played more games than Tomlin, but that's because he has been here longer..

ideal world yes I agree.. its not quite as simple though because if these 2 continue playing and playing well other clubs might offer them longer contracts..so if we want to keep them we are forced into competing so
A} we could offer them good contracts...both have turned a new page and are great....
B} we could offer them both good contracts and within a few months they are injured and fat
C } we might be giving them game time ahead of more committed players only for them to use the opportunity to sell themselves to other clubs.. :banghead:
personally id have bitten the bullet, let them rot in the reserves and get crap lge 2 contracts and use the money elsewhere. { not a popular view but they have robbed this club }

That's how I see it automatic choice give 1 year with a 2nd year to kick in if they reach a X amount of appearances next season

Am I missing something here. Jazz has never ever scored a goal in his professional career
