Promotion sides goalie

Is there an argument that our promotion sides defence wasn't a great deal better than what we now have but an inspired Etheridge made a difference? Im remembering numerous times he made several outstanding saves and if that means three points its a significant difference

The difference is we had Gunnarason sat in front of the defence stopping most attacks before they reach the centre backs. Now teams walk freely into them and they are wide open.

Nothing to do with Etheridge whines average at best

At this stage in our promotion season wed kept eleven clean sheets compared to six this season. We have though kept three since Harris took over.

We all remember zohores purple patch in that promo season but Paterson was our top scorer with ten league goals.

I agree about Gunnars presence but he was injured for most of season. Only started 17 games. Damour and Bryson both actually started more. We did have Brunos pace mind too. Didn't Bamba have a long spell playing CDM before we signed Grukic? Still think Etheridge had a role with strings of saves some ganes

It's quite interesting that the two players everybody used to moan about in Gunnarsson and Bruno are the ones we miss the most.

It was the same when Whittingham left

Bruno is the biggest difference in my view...

Gunners barely played. Great server to the club but he was passed it

Manga and Bamba made a massive difference in defence to what we have now

Losing Bruno Manga was a big miss, and Bamba now out injured, But the biggest difference is now having Flint. I'd like to see the Morrison/Nelson combination more often.

Agree that Bruno is a big big miss.

He was leading his country into major international tournaments against the best players in the world in his last season with us and still is now. Hardly past it. He is a huge miss in our midfield and far better than anyone we currently have in our squad
He was 29 in his last season with us and played 28 games . If that's passed it then people like Ronaldo at 34 must be ancient

no, i have had this discussion with my mates quite a bit lately. the truth is, we played the exact same way when we won promotion as we did this season under NW. teams carved us open etc, the biggest difference was, we didnt concede sloppy goals. we nicked a goal and then teams went all out attack which meant we either hit them on the counter with the pace of "NML, junior and zohore" or we closed up shop

the stats for touches in the opposition box.. corners..shots were more often than not very decent.
what we almost always came 2nd in was possession...possession in the middle third of the pitch. that was the case this year too.. continuity I think was the big difference ..we had kept all our main guys and added a bit that year. this year it was almost the opposite, lost too many of last years regulars.....with zero patient fans.
under Harris our results have improved a bit .. possession in that middle third has improved a bit . but possession in the attacking third is less..

Sir Neil advocated games won and lost in each penalty area. We are not good enough in our own.

The malkay promotion season saw us have 18 clean sheets. We currently have six and three of those since Harris in charge. Small steps. Hudson and Turner both better than Flint.

My personal view is the best defence we've had is from six years ago.

Kevin McNaughton

Mark Hudson

Ben Turner

Andrew Taylor

Now, you could argue none have gone on to better things in their playing careers. But as a four, I think they were brilliant.

Added to which there was Marshall behind them and Gunnar in front. 18 clean sheets would seem to back you up.
